Well Lucy, though your deductive reasoning is flawed your optimism is not and, as far as Charlie’s sardonic remark, well it just simply misses the mark; though it is right-on with his often pessimistic life view. The facts are Lucy that the Sun is gradually becoming more luminous (about 10% every 1 billion years), and its surface temperature is slowly rising. This means that the Sun used to be fainter in the past, which is possibly the reason life on this little spaceship Earth has only existed for about 1 billion years on land, than what it is today. Subsequently, as time marches on, the continued increase in solar temperatures is such that in about another billion years the surface of the Earth will likely become too hot for liquid water to exist, ending all terrestrial life. So, Lucy you do not have to be concerned about the world ending for many-many life times to come. Your concern Lucy, as ours, should be whether our children and our children’s children will acquire the intellect, knowledge, wisdom and ability to live in symbiosis with the ecosystems on this little spaceship long enough to find the means to take them into a Star Trek future or, like the dinosaurs, parish from the face of the universe.

There is no yesterday or tomorrow, only today — actually, there is only “now”. A dimensionless point..“Wherever you go, there you are.”.(Metaphysics is fun!)
