He also dramatically changed the graphic arts with a better tool, and motion pictures with the creativity he brought to, and encouraged at, Pixar (and Disney). His impact is actually UNDER rated by many.

Apple gets a lot of credit for the first personal computer. Not so – Jack Tramiel’s Commodore company was the first company to show a personal computer, even before Apple and Radio Shack. They sold a million computers before anyone else. No single computer has sold more than the Commodore 64. Then they lost a substantial advantage with some incredibly bad decisions.

There are four devices on that table and pretty much the only thing Jobs had to do with them was the marketing.

Jase, your ignorance is showing. Jobs had a record number of patents, was a hands-on executive, and his input was crucial on all of those projects. Also, if you’ve ever used a version of Microsoft’s operating system, you can thank Steve Jobs for making them compete, and attempting to make a better product. Imagine how little MS-DOS would have changed without competition forcing it!

His impact over the long haul was to combine form with function, something llittle known in an American company. He changed the way I look at products, even those of his competitors, and by doing so, made them better. Take a look at the clean lines of your current electronics, your small appliances, your best-designed packaging. His sense of design wasn’t perfect but even my latest glucose meter comes in “nano” green!
