I don’t think Harry Reid would throw out the Senate rules. He relies on them and uses them to decide what bills get brought up for debate. The rules are designed to give advantage to the majority party in the chamber. If the Republicans don’t like it, they should get some more Senators elected, then they can use the rules to hobble the Democrats all they want, just like the Democrats are doing right now against the Republicans.
If only the Democrats had “put on the gloves” a long time ago, instead of wimping out. As a “radical centrist”, it’s been 25 years of frustration watching BOTH parties wander down the primrose path, of stupidity.
My only question is why the Democrats didn’t use this rule when there were more of them? There are so many bills that could have passed that would have helped Americans instead of pretending they need 60 votes all the time.
Churchie, read Tom Friedman’s latest book, “That Used to be US”- he defines it quite well, it’s NOT an oxymoron (like “compassionate conservative” WAS) and I’ve been there for a long time. The problem is that to current “right-wingers”, Hitler was a “lefty” and many of them on these pages have said so, repeatedly! Rational analysis of facts is difficult for “left wing” Democrats, and a total impossibility for some of the even more “moderate” “Republicans” today.(Teapublicans ARE the RINO)
