I had these buildings back when I was in school in the 60’s. We called them “out houses”.

Petey’s imagination may be exaggerating the crowdedness of that schoolyard maze of portable classrooms. Or maybe not. I’ve seen lots of them ….

They lack the characteristic half-cylinder of the Quonset hut. FEMA shacks?

I remember we had portables at elementary and middle schools circa 1970’s and 80’s, but it seems people aren’t having as many kids nowadays so the portables have all gone at my old schools…

I spent the sixth grade in a portable classroom; one of three. The teacher in one of them was an ex golden gloves boxer. When he “punished” a child you could hear them you could hear them bouncing off the walls.

I is obviously Petey’s imagination that they change every day, as they are on blocks (not wheels). Having a whole lot of identical trailer rooms must be confusing to many kids – I colorcode everything because it helps me.

They are similar to the smaller trailers used at construction sites. I’ve ben to meetings in many of those back when I had a job.

    Hey Folks,

I beat you by a decade. In the mid 50’s, my junior high school had an annex, which was a quonset hut with about ten extra class rooms

We called them bungalows back in the 60’s. In L.A. school system they were everywhere. No heat and no AC, they would get over 110 degrees inside. The summer of 1970 when school started they cancelled it for a whole week because it was over 100 outside making it over 120 in the bugalows. Not conducive to good learnin’. More than a few heat strokes went around, me included. Forgot to eat my spinach that day.

Petey! Look out! Those portable classrooms look more like barracks to a school version of a Nazi concentration camp!
