This reminded me of the Oral Roberts record that you couldn’t play because the hole in the middle kept healing over.

You have the authority to tell who’s a real christian and who’s not? I though real christians thought only one being had that power.

I read the New Testament. That’s pretty much the definition of a Pharisee.

Harely, it isn’t about “religion” as you must well know. It IS about all the HYPOCRISY, and that little Article Six in the Constitution, and the First Amendment that proclaims, “Thou shalt not shove THY religion down MY throat!”

It was Barack Obama who claimed to be able to “stop the seas rising”. It was unclear if that metapower includes the ability to “stop the seas falling”. As for me and Grampa, we believe.

The problem with Perry (and others) is that the “religious right” is neither.

“Science” is based on facts and analysis. Some religious teaching, notably in Buddhism, and the “leave the fields fallow ever seven years” in Genesis, actually have basis supported by science, like quantum mechanics and Buddhist beliefs, and soil science with respect to agriculture and letting the land rest and restore. “Belief” in a power superior to humans, and their intellect, being responsible for the universes is one thing. Having “faith” that your homicidal tendencies are supported by a mythical “being”, that you created in your own image a long time ago, is not really “religion”, but insanity. When it comes to “consciousness” the fundamentalist extremists of ANY faith who use “religion” only to justify their own wishes, are down their with the rocks and tree stumps. And THAT is the problem with those “religious right”- whether Christian, Jew, or Muslim, all of whom are “conservative” in that they rely on dogma, not new or potentially conflicting data, to support their narrow-minded views.

Barack Obama made the statement quoted on June 3, 2008. End of statement. I prefer not to clutter with bombast and name-calling. Sorry.

I mean that none of us, NONE, knows that guy’s relationship with God and everyone, including you, should STFU about it. No matter if it’s the president or a hobbo on the street, it’s between them and God. It’s none of our business. And it distracts the electorate from more pragmatic thing, like that little recession going on.

I don’t believe any of our founders were required to explain their belief in a supernatural being (God). The vast majority of the world’s population holds a belief in one supernatural being or another (whether it be God or allah or buddha etc…). To question someone’s mental stability because of their religious beliefs is ridiculous. And besides, each of our presidents George Washington to Barrack Obama have professed either protestant Christianity or Catholicism. Why should Perry be mocked or examined for having the same faith?

In Matthew chapter 6 Jesus is teaching on prayer and in verse 5 he is referring to those who would pray out loud openly in public so that they would be seen as righteous and spiritual. Jesus was warning the disciples not to seek for the praise of men but rather to let our intentions and motives be to reach out to God with our petitions. If Harley is to follow the teaching of Jesus then he/she will most certainly pray for you but those prayers must be heartfelt and earnest. It would be folly to openly “pray” in such a way as to further argue or to belittle you or boast in his/her own spirituality. They must be sincere prayers that God would bless you and that you would seek Him and gain a relationship with Him.

Timothy McVeigh may have called himself a Christian but he most certainly did not live by Christian principles or hold Christian values. Only those who have a pre-existing hatred for Christianity give such a label to McVeigh. The Christian community does not recognize him as a Christian and the Bible condemns his murder. Those who hate Christianity call him a Christian only so that a false reproach can be brought on those who profess faith in Christ.

How about those who actually practise religion like it is meant to be; in private, with tolerance of different opinions and common sense without prozelitizing. It does exist. Most mildly religious people are that waay. It just doesn’t make the news because it is, well, private, as it should be.

I won’t defend Harley on that one. It irritates me when people say “I will pray for you” as though it is an insult to the character of the person being prayed for.In such a case it isn’t so much saying “I’m concerned for you so I want you to know that you’re in my prayers” as it is saying “I think you have problems and you need my prayers.”Such an attitude is destructive.
