The yoke’s on you, Charlie Brown!

How Peanuts was rated second place after Krazy Kat by The Comics Journal, and why Schulz agreed with the rating, I may never understand.

I don’t get the yoke.

I like my yokes over easy.

Obviously the strip is old. Couldn’t have that many Biblical references in schools today.

On this day in 1950, the comic strip Peanuts, written and illustrated by Twin Cities native Charles M. Schulz, (books by this author) was first published.

The first Peanuts book, published in July of 1952, became my own personal Dick and Jane. Charles Schulz taught me to read.

Relax, Charlie Brown. Not everything has to be about you. Why not just be happy for Linus?

CB can’t blame Linus for a yoke that was there all along…

Remember the days when you could talk about the Bible in the comics and it was cool? I miss Charles Schulz.

Wow, lots of overreaction. o.O Bible quotes and whatnot are allowed in school, heck, a court ruling ensured that religious clubs are allowed too. Only thing that’s not allowed is the school actually pushing any of it (i.e., teachers can’t teach it) which makes sense, since there will be people of many religions or none there.

Anyway, I was going to come here to point out that one could replace that yoke with a tie and it would still make sense lol.

Sixty one years ago today, the first Peanuts cartoon appeared in daily newspapers around the United States. Celebrate.

This comic would never see print in today’s newspapers.

Thank God for Charles Shultz, “creator” of the BEST comic EVER!!

And back then, Linus had to consult an encyclopedia for his knowledge, not use the Internet, where half the “knowledge” is false.

Good ol’ Linus shares the plan of salvation. Love me some Linus. Old Wolf: Alley Oop taught me to read, but Schulz was in the Library at school, hardback comics, and he kept me reading thru elementary school. Kazor: I’m with you re school religion: it’s not so dire for a student believer, particularly one who has learned how to let God lead. Hey GimmickGenius: That’s hilarious! Yes! Love me some Bible questions on Jeopardy, but I don’t know a surfeit of answers. I recommend the book “The Gospel of Peanuts.” My favorite strip ever shows CB standing before the principal’s door, praying for favor: “Protect me from the hand of them that would persecute me.” Brilliant, beautiful.

Too bad that wouldn’t be permitted in public schools today. Most school teachers would cringe at so many biblical references, plus I have heard of students being suspended for such things. Even though, the US Constitution states that Linus saying such things in school is protected under the First Amendment.

I guess (trudge) I’m just going to have to look up all these references all by myself. In a (shudder) book. The authoritative version – the King James version.

Just – joquing – I know it’s one of many translations. But it’s the one I studied in high school (as literature – but thereby hangs another tail…).

I mean tale…; that was an unmeant pun. I’m tired today & things come out wrong.

The world is a sadder place without Charles Shulz…

While it may be religious superstition, it has also become common courtesy. Saying “Bless You” is definately not cause for lowering a student’s grade, as was done.

Yes. I this society rulled by “the god of this world” (2 Cor :4,4), any teaching of the Bible has become prohibited. I can’t help it but express my sadness. Thank you, Mr. Schulz. May God have you in good place.
