It’s incentive to get you to buy a new phone.

Actually, although 2G lacks the impressive speeds of 3G and 4G, it offers better range and stability when you’re outside the most tightly populated areas where the 3G and 4G transmitters usually are. My iPhone always has “3G” set to “Off” except on those occasions when I know that I specifically need higher speed for a bit. Of course, it depends on what you use your smartphone for, and where you usually use it.

I don’t think my phone has any G’s at all!

What the heck is a “G” anyway? My cell doesn’t have any g’s either. It sends and receives calls and texts and takes pictures. I don’t see the need for all the other bells and whistles cell phones come with now. It’s just one more distraction drivers have to not pay attention to their driving. And before you ask, I don’t answer my cell when I drive. I’ll answer it when I get to my destination.

“Great Googly” is all she’s got?!? “Gorging Great Gigantic Googly Moogly!!” (the 4G) is what she really needs. ;-)

Its been almost a year since I got my shiny new cell. Took me 6 months before I realized it was 3G. Betty doesn’t need to worry. Plain cell phone, land line, or whatever.

Its what you do with the G that counts.

G stands for “generation”. 3G is the third generation of wireless, 4G is fourth and doesn’t really exist except in the largest metro areas. Nobody else has the infrastructure yet, and by the time it trickles down, they’ll be hawking 5G phones. It’s mostly marketing.
