This is an interesting flashback to the 70’s — women don’t talk about being “liberated” anymore, just like they don’t talk about being “suffragettes” or “abolitionists”. Once a social revolution is complete, the language used to describe it dies out.

That is liberal for John. Dinner on the table by 6:00 sounds like Archie Bunker!

My sister in law got stopped for no seat belt.. Told the cop it would not go around her.. as she was expecting twins. He didn’t believe it til he tried it himself …When he couldn’t do it wrote a notice that it didn’t fit so she wouldn’t get a ticket… that was back in 1985…. El Paso Tx….

Are Annie’s big eyes in the last panel a reaction to Ellie’s comment, or is she noticing something about herself that might lead to Ellie’s not meeting John’s expectations?

Women’s right have come a long way. Fat Freddie Flintstone wanted dinner on the table at 5:00 as he came through the door. I’m one of the cooks, on a rotating basis, in my fire company. We eat whenever. And infrequently.

Since John leaves the dentist office by 5pm, he should have supper ready for Elly by 6pm; I understand completely why he would care that she be home by then. After supper while he cleans up the kitchen and washes the dishes, Elly can go back out with her friends again.

    Nothing like borrowing trouble.
