So much food going to waste all over the world and they could just send some down there without having to be paid for it every once in a while and it would only improve the reputation.

Too bad they didn’t have any guns to trade for the food. But keep donating to the UN, it’s doing so much GOOD for the world.

At this point in time, there is enough food for everyone in the world. There are political problems in places like Somalia that prevent the food from getting to people who need it. Macro-politics, micro-politics, warlords making a buck off of aid meant for other people. So Vortex, are you going to feed these people all by yourself? I didn’t think so…

The Relief “industry”? The UN to blame? The UN is filled with dedicated people trying to get food to people who need it despite the dictators who are willing to let their people starve in order to control them! Good lord, you people are either ill-informed or complete bastards. I hope the former.

@comicgos;Tue Elung-Jensen;vortex1203International food aid got the food to the country and the dictator won’t allow the food to be distributed.

Transportation and distribution is a great problem (physical and political “road blocks”). How many people stop to realize that without our distribution network in the U.S., many folks would starve to death if dependent on solely “local” food sources. It’s about all those central and South American countries that are our real “bread basket” or more accurately cornucopia called “grocery store”.

Harley is right. (Something I never thought I’d say). The warlords controlling most of Somalia have banned relief agencies from coming in and helping. They publicly insist there is no famine and the relief agencies are there to engage in politics rather than help starving people. If a relief agency were discovered working in a warlord controlled area, they would likely be attacked and their supplies be taken.

I see that English was not your best subject.Actually, involving government in any charity work will instantly impose such a red-tape financial burden that the donations will be mostly exhausted before reaching their intended recipients. Leave charity work to those who do it from the heart.

The reason why the U.N. is hamstrung on most issues is because of its anachronistic Permanent Security Council veto. @JoanHelen: Genocide is not accepted throughout Africa but in some parts of it, it is rifeWell said but I’d say it is not limited to Africa. Nor is tribalism. Nationalism is just another form of tribalism and that is rife all over this planet. I was born in Africa and have trouble understanding folks who worship supernatural beings, nevermind ancestors.

Swirly and others: the UN is currently feeding over 10 million refugees, and seeking out an estimated 3 million more in dire need. Where is Rush Limbaugh and the Koch brothers? btw, we have people actually starving in some parts of the U.S. as well, but who cares? not them.
