Awesome. We were just watching the lightening bugs in the back yard a few nights ago. Had more of them a month or so back, but they are still plentiful.
After moving to San Antonio 8 years ago from So. Cal., I was thrilled to see fireflys again after 30-some years. Within 3 years they had all disappeared. I understand the fire ants have destroyed the species by eating all the larvae. Very sad.
They have survived the fire ants in northern Texas, but the heat may have done them in. On the other hand, the Mediterraneangeckos (introduced a few years ago) have run out the already rare Anole carolinis and are thriving. Two years ago, one ate a lightning bug and you could see the light flashing inside the gecko for about two minutes later.

Brian, I thought you were from Seattle? The absence of fireflies is one of my few regrets in living west of the Rockies.
