The kids who I T.A., all of them having English for a native language, are remarkably dumb and often make spelling mistakes like in the fourth panel of yesterday’s strip while writing their exam and assignment answers. And in their case, it’s not subtlety, it’s stupidity.
And I was at Delhi University for two and a half years before quitting. Their system is so screwed up that good kids fail and bad ones pass because the system does not encourage intelligence or allow intelligent students to succeed, classes are few and far between, and teachers are inconsiderate and unconcerned.
You must probably get your news from the back of a cereal box, because on the ground, things are very different in Delhi. (I should know. I’ve been living there for over ten years now.)
Not too much offense meant, but, if you teach English, you should know that “to” is not the same as “too”. Also, you seem to be changing your tense here (I’m not an English major – it just sounds wrong): “I’ve never claimed to have taught in India, let alone visit the country….” and maybe here: “There appear to have been many negative comments yesterday….” Even if, technically, you’re correct, the sentences read awkwardly. Also, you have “subtleties” – plural – meaning there should be more than one, but I only see one. Now, I’m not much for quibbling except with numbers and language, but I think you should tighten up. Oh, and you should close your parenthetical expression.

Another writer last week didn’t even know what the expression “or bust” meant – he thought it was a reference to boobs. hahahahahahahahahahahahaha….

If you think a word should be “cat” and the writer says “tiger” instead, that is NOT a misspelling of “cat”, it’s simply a different word.
