How about if we make the spineless wimps live with what THEY impose on US. They have exempted themselves from social security, and have their own package. They have exempted themselves for Obamacare, but it is good enough for us. WHY isn’t it good enough for them, but WE must accept it????
Medicare AND Social Security are easily “fixable” with slight will and minor modifications. Getting rid of unneeded and wasteful “defense” spending?? Not a chance!!
^Gladius, the problems ARE “slight” and “minor”, the idiots refusing to DO ANYTHING are “major” hinderances to progress. The “trust fund” isn’t broke, and it can be repaired. Medicare CAN work better, and the best start is negotiating drug prices instead of paying MORE than “the market will bear”. And sorry, my mom is 98, almost 99, and if she needed a liver transplant I couldn’t justify paying for it from Medicare funds— or cosmetic surgery like a nose or boob job. That’s why a lot of countries DO HAVE effective “single payer” systems to cover basic health care, and for “supplemental goodies”, you have to carry supplemental insurance.
A typical right wing hatchet job. As is repeatedly pointed out, Social Security and Medicare have adequate reserves to last more than 25 years. Failing to adjust FICA withholding to shore up those reserves is irresponsibleThe Federal Government has borrowed from those reserves. Unlike some less than intelligent people claim, there is nothing wrong with that. That way our money can make more money until we need it. What IS irresponsible are those who suggest the Federal Government shouldn’t feel obligated to repay the money they borrowed.

trout,If they were “slight and minor” they would have been done by now. You are living in a fantasy world.

^Loaning to Uncle Sam is like loaning to a homeless derelict and thinking you will be repaid.

A great look into such a future can be found in “The Repo Men” staring Jude Law

I like Matt Wuerker’s take on it better.
