    And how many billions did it take to come up with these new guidelines?

    it’s called expense justification; or: if you don’t spend your alotted budget before fiscal quarter or year end, the surplus goes back and your next allocation will be that much less (since you obviously didn’t need it). i had a shop in the navy with a quarter-million dollar wishing-well. you can imagine the mad scramble to find 400 dollar hammers, thousand dollar toilet seats, and crap to spend every last dime before the fiscal year end, so we didn’t lose any funding for next year. i actually had a supply petty officer who did nothing for the last weeks but spend huge amounts of money. government feduciary negative reinforcement. works for me.

    It matters little what the guidelines are, people eat what they want and be d—-d with the end results. Wheelchairs, oxygen tanks, quadruple bypass, and praying not to die.

    How many of you remember Jim Fixx ?? Health guru, running junkie, dropped dead from a heart attack while out on a jog. Pass the meat and spuds, with extra butter and gravy

    The wife and I let our kids have fast food maybe once every other week. I cook very nutritious meals and we know enough to make sure our kids get enough exercise. I applaud the FLOTUS and her efforts, and say “BOO!” to all the whiny people on the right. “BOO!”

    Ewell Gibbons and the other, female, guru (who’s name I can’t remember at the moment) both touted supplements, whole grains, and tons of fiber— both died of stomach cancer. Just a thought.

    @Brad Brown

    Running didn’t kill him. It was more a genetic predisposition to heart disease, stress, weight, and a rather nasty smoking habit…

    Funny that no one remembers Jack Lalaine and his crazy habits:

    I eat what I want [relatively healthy] and exercise, and thankfully have a high metabolism. I don’t discourage people who diet, nor do I chide people who eat too much. If I were in a different disposition, though, I’d probably be a little bit more considerate about what I eat.

    That being said, kids are fat mostly because they don’t have recess and PE anymore and don’t GO OUT AND PLAY because they’re too busy on their games and social networking sites. GO OUTSIDE and get some friggin exercise!

    @Jade: They DEFINITELY need recess. Try sitting a group of thirty 7-year-olds in uncomfortable seats for 7 hours straight and see what they learn. As for the games and Facebook, that’s where mature parenting needs to come in. But we’re all too busy chasing that dollar to pay the mortgage company so our kids can have a nice home. And good food.
