Great idea! Although damaged or injured the spider got away, but for how long? Anyway, it was the best reaction in an emergency situation.
On the other hand taking refuge under a softer hat might have it’s own drawbacks?
I can’t believe the newspaper on a plastic or metal hard hat would make that much noise even in comic world.

Some of you already mentioned this problem, but I was wondering if that hat was made of bronze or brass and the paper had something hard in it.
