Danae’s line of reasoning is the same line that Chinese students use when they buy fake entrance essays to get into colleges overseas.

Am I the only one who sees the “enhanced interrogation” logic being used?

Anybody else reminded of Tom Lehrer’s song “Lobachevsky”? I’m thinking in particular of the verse:

    (insert fake Russian accent)

Plagiarize! Let no-one else’s work evade your eyes. Why do you think the good lord made your eyes, So don’t shade your eyes. But plagiarize, plagiarize, plagiarize…. Only be sure to call it please – “research”.

You can hear this very funny song in its entirety on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RNC-aj76zI4

Yes, I remember that one dtut; my dad really liked Lehrer so we oft played his records (yes, I mean vinyl) eventually recording them to a CrO2 tape.

For ejcapulet, I know an (India-born) woman in Calgary who made much claim about having failed either TOEFL or UCalgary’s “Effective Writing” admissions exam (she never got her story straight on the matter, a red-flag) the first time because she put her name on the exam–and passing it the second time by putting ID-number only on it.

    An aside for dtut:

I remember adding a post-1974 couplet to Lehrer’s atom-bomb song “Who’s next?” (original in 1965/1966) which went as:

“India got the bomb, yes sirree And said it’ll only use it peacefully”
