he’s joined the rest of the peas in his pod.Gore, Carte and Arafat. somehow they belong together..when they add Bill Clinton it will be a full-house….the NOBEL PEAS PRIZE
It was a nice consolation after losing in his bid to woo the IOC. Reportedly used “I” or “me” 26 times in 48 sentences. Michelle spoke too, using “I” or “me” 44 times in 41 sentences. If Copenhagen even modestly nudged him towards the realization that narcissism won’t win the world over, I’m sure winning a Nobel Peace Prize for his work of enheartening our enemies will disabuse him of the notion quickly and bring things back to normal.
Maybe those on the right are right (maybe I should say correct) one should be judged by what one has done.
So lets judge the Republicans. They were in power for the last 8 years, during that time they allowed terrorist to attack us and kill over 3,000 Americans, they put us trillions of dollars in debt, they started two pointless wars, that have killed 5,000 more Americans, they trashed the Constitution, destroyed the economy, millions of people lost their jobs, lost their homes, and lost their health coverage, our schools are a mess, our cities are full of people with guns, the rich got much, much richer, and the poor not only got poorer, but there are more of them.
Why Oh Why do you still support them? After 8 years of proof do you believe them when they say they are the party of American Values?
Ken Warren, I agree with you. All your points I have also made in other posts. Now it’s a long slog back.
I think Danziger’s style sort of prevents him from drawing a more accurate picture of Obama but he could work on it.
Actually, it was probably close on the Nobel for economics - less than nine months after the inception of a massive government stimulus package, the banking crisis is just about fully resolved, stimulus funds are being repaid, and the words “global economic recovery” are being bandied about by analysts.
Of course, the GOP is quick to the refrain that Obama hasn’t done anything to deserve this award, but hey, so is the Taliban…isn’t it nice to be able to so easily identify America’s enemies (and those who are aligned with them in hoping that we fail?)
I’ll say it again: As much of a surprise as it was for Obama to win, it’s mostly because he didn’t lobby for it and we here in the states didn’t hear much about it. But as the chairman said, who has done MORE for world peace over the last year, even if it is mostly just changing the tone? Also, I could even accept the argument that this year’s field was weak because I’ll bet you didn’t know ANY of the other front-runners for the prize. But you’d rather have some anonymous person that you know nothing about win than the president. It’s like winning the Oscar. It’s easy to say “so and so should have won an Oscar” but until you look and see who they were up against and whose Oscar should be taken away, it’s just talk. So who SHOULD have won this year?
hey! how about let’s have a RED country and a BLUE country….then you guys could become illegal aliens and come to RED when you fail….by the way ahab you can keep Ali Bama and his 40+ thieves
To be honest, I do not feel that I deserve to be in the company of so many of the transformative figures who’ve been honored by this prize – men and women who’ve inspired me and inspired the entire world through their courageous pursuit of peace.
But I also know that throughout history the Nobel Peace Prize has not just been used to honor specific achievement; it’s also been used as a means to give momentum to a set of causes.
That is why I’ve said that I will accept this award as a call to action, a call for all nations and all peoples to confront the common challenges of the 21st century. These challenges won’t all be met during my presidency, or even my lifetime. But I know these challenges can be met so long as it’s recognized that they will not be met by one person or one nation alone.
This award – and the call to action that comes with it – does not belong simply to me or my administration; it belongs to all people around the world who have fought for justice and for peace. And most of all, it belongs to you, the men and women of America, who have dared to hope and have worked so hard to make our world a little better.
(sorry for the repetition, but seems to be necessary)
As far as the portrayal of Obama in the cartoon shown, I don’t think it’s a tremendous likeness, but I don’t see that it would be racially offensive. But then, it’s not for me to say. Some cartoonists save their unflattering caricatures for people they don’t like while leaving others unscathed (has Glenn McCoy EVER drawn W., Rush, Cheney, or anybody he agrees with as anything RESEMBLING his grotesques of Clinton, Ted Kennedy, Letterman, and so on?), and some make everybody look goofy all the time (Toles comes to my mind, but there are others). Oliphant is very good in that he can vary his caricatures according to circumstance. But then, Oliphant is SO good in so MANY ways…
Dr Canuck, John Ford Nash won the so-called «Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel», instituted by Sweden’s Riksbank to commemorate not so much Alfred Nobel but its own 300th anniversary (founded 1668) ; this prize is not one of the five instituted in accordance with Nobel’s testament. It doesn’t take a prize winner in mathematics - or for that matter, economics - to realise that much of what is wrong in the United States could be repaired if the money devoted to war was used instead for things like providing health care for all residents, revamping a dangerously dilapidated physical and social infrastructure, etc, but given the balance of power in US politics, that seems, alas, unlikely….
shortass : it’s foolish of me to reply to your comments as a new cartoon has been published and everyone has moved on and no one will see this comment, but I have to point out that:
Yes Americans were killed by terrorist before 2000, but not on American soil, and
The attacks should have made the Republicans aware that the terrorist were a danger, and they should have been better prepared.
if it happened while the Democrats were in charge people like you would scream that the Democats had failed and should never be elected again.

It should be pointed that all of those “DEBTS” were created by Bush and the Republicans!
Maybe Obama should get a medal for having to fix this mess.

As I understand it, from a college algebra prof with an MS, it’s hard to do new work, as opposed to expanding on existing work, in mathematics.

Hey Ken:
Keep listening to Keith Olberman and the DemocRATS.
See?
DemocRATS.
See the last four letters?
RATS?
That’s what they are.
That’s why we are in this mess.
Have you noticed that since 2006 when they were voted into power, everything has been going DOWNHILL since then?
Peace.
