The dad is supposed to “not hear” in bed and mom hears and gets up to take care of things. That’s what I did until mom figured me out when the second baby came and she poked me until I “heard”. Oh well, it was good for awhile. With Calvin I’d pull a pillow over my head…..

If I was Calvin’s Mom, I’d get up quick before he gets sick in bed. That will just make more work.

Nobody has much, if any, consideration for the others. Dad started well, but he could have asked Calvin why he wanted Mom. Then Dad could have said to Mom, “Calvin wants you because…” Irregardless, if Mom doesn’t respond soon, the ‘crying out loud’ probably will come from Calvin.

I’m a light sleeper, so i was the one who heard the late night cries of the babies and the kids calling out later in their lives. I didn’t get a full night sleep for about 5 years til my 2nd child was about 3.

I have no kids, but I sleep lighter and have better hearing than my wife so whenever our dog threw up in the middle of the night I always had to get up and clean up.

My ex-wife thought it was great that I was teaching our kids to say “Mommy” until someone spilled the beans about who they’d call in the middle of the night (not that it mattered because I was the one that got up with them and even to this day, when they are sick they still want me to take care of them…).

My wife always says that I never got up with our daughter during her middle of the night episodes, but I have PROOF! I have a photo my wife took showing me giving our daughter a bottle. Paige is wide awake, nestled in my arm, happily sucking on her bottle while my head is down to my chest, sound asleep.

If this was a Sunday strip then perhaps Dad would have to worry about Calvin making a big mess with a “technicolor yawn” but thankfully, this is just a daily. What’s the worst thing that could happen? Calvin might “pixelate” all over?

Eh. No worries. Just go back to bed and have one of those pink erasers ready to clean up any mess in the morning.

Mom, here’s what you do. Let Dad go back to sleep and you go get kid, tuck kid into bed with Dad. Then wait till kid throws up. This will help Dad bond with kid. Be sure to grab your pillow out of the way. Also anything else that Dad might use to catch it with.

BTW, a child’s stomach can hold more than Dad’s two hands cupped together. Speaking from experience.

I have to control myself, like today, not to run over to my son’s with my Mom kit and take care of my granddaughter’s cold. I controlled myself and asked them if they had everything I would have brought over, when I ran to the store today. Being a grandmother is harder!

Hey, I’m a dad and when my daughter was only 3 many moons ago, she cried out and I literally jumped out of bed onto a leg that was asleep. Later that day I was wearing a cast. Then still much, much later you hear “You don’t love me!”
