tbree: I worked with a 20 year old girl like that. No matter what she did wrong it wasn’t her fault it was someone else’s. She came in to be trained by me and I had problems with her repeated screw-ups and me trying to correct her and her telling me she was going to do it her way! I told my supervisor about her problem on Monday and she had already gotten caught for several screw-ups and blamed them on me! I had trained many people before and this was the first time I ran into this behavior. This happened repeatedly and I told the supervisor not to keep her on after her trial period but she was such a, “kiss-up” that she wouldn’t listen. She made problems for everyone in the department and finally stormed out one day saying, “She didn’t have to take this kind of abuse”. We all applauded after she left and she never came back! Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@Dino-1 We had pretty much the same problem here, this girl came in for an interview straight from college, she appeared quite bright and willing to work so she got hired. Within a week she was spending most of the working day hidding the fact that she was doing nothing but social networking on the PC or her cell, and messing all her work up (the first can be ignored if the work gets done). When brought up on the the mistakes she was making she would blame the person who gave her the job saying they told her to do it that way or didn’t explain it properly, or that they never told her how to do it at all (the fact that there’s a procedure manual seemed to have gone in one ear and out the other), as the pressure built she directed her attention on her supervisor and tried her hardest to get her sacked, unfortunately for her the company boss and the supervisor are good personal friends so he had already got to hear all about her, after a few quick checks with the rest of us and a couple of written warnings she was out the door without any references. It seems there are a lot of people out there like this :(

As for Calvin and Hobbes… I’m impressed how despondant and sorrowful Hobbes can look, whilst in stealth mode, at the sound of Calvin’s denials and blame. You never know the truth might have got him brownie points with dad… ’Aww! He’s tring to be like me’

Yukoner, “…when first we practice to deceive.” It has been so from the FALL in the beginning when Eve was deceived by the serpent, (as I’m sure you know). Genesis chapter 3

Nick V (from yesterday), And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, And prevailed not; neither was their place found anymore in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, who deceives the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. Revelation 12:7-9

You gotta know that Calivin is just following man’s oldest tradition. When God asked Adam why he ate the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, Adam spoke right up and said, “Eve made me do it”. We’ve been doing that ever since.

Hey Yukoner, your observation doesn’t seem like something that a person in the territories would come up with. Unless, of course, your up in Dawson City and looking at that winter coming down the river.

I guess you could somehow compare Calvin’s mishap with spring break-up although it never occurred to me to blame it on the kids.

jrbj said, “We’ve been doing that ever since.” “And the woman (Eve) said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.” And Flip Wilson said, “The Devil made me do it.” I agree that there has been a find a scapegoat mentality among humans from time immemorial, but in this case I believe both Adam and Eve were confessing to God. What each of them said was a statement of fact. In my opinion they were not accusations. Note the implied first blood sacrifice in verse 21 for the forgiveness of sins (requiring repentance). “The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23

When mom finds out she will probably say to dad: “If you had fixed that leaky faucet, Calvin wouldn’t have been tempted to try and fix it.” Because in the end they always blame dad. It’s too bad that Calvin didn’t listen to Hobbes and figure out how to shut off the water. Given Calvin’s penchant for over doing the small things, he probably would have shut off the water main to the house. That would have gotten mom and dad’s attention.

For those who’ve read this far, thank you. I have just two comments: RE: “Oh what a tangled web …” I have an addition, “And if at first we don’t succeed, lie, lie again.” And as for the aliens from Pluto, they’re probably still steaming about their planetoid being downgraded from planet status and are seeking havok on Earth thru various evil and nefarious acts such as this.

I’d go with the pluto aliens story. It has the most potential. I mean now that Pluto is demoted from planet to asteroid plutoans would be looking for payback (not to mention the complex about their bug eyes). As Calvin is destined to be future ruler of earth, it makes sense for plutoans to try to skrew things up for Cavin. Who knows if they didn’t make the faucet leak in the first place?

“any lawyer will tell you: “deny , deny , deny!”

    I thought the saying went:

“If the law is against you, argue the facts. If the facts are against you, argue the law. If both are against you, shout louder and wave your hands.”

Calvin is doing well on that third option…
