I was only getting the background and the other page frames…. but not the cartoon itself…. but one more refresh and there it is!

Now I understand….. after all, it’s about bassets running.

The Plodding of the Bassets might be more accurate (and hope all went well, Plods!)

A sort of sporting combo, today’s (rerun, but that’s OK) Cleo and “today’s” (10-year-old) Ballard Street.

There’s the Running of the Bassets, in Basselona…

and also, the running of Cleo herself…. both only in her dreams….

though I dare say she’s getting a fair bit of exercise.

She can run a lot farther and faster, lying down.

Then on Ballard Street, what looks like an Olympic trailer vaulting event.

How may points do you get for a perfect overhead flip, if you stick the landing like that?

Ooooh…. wait… it looks like there was some interference during the 40° through 55° portion of the arc.

That’s gonna cost Daryl in the final tally…. especially from that Swedish judge who favors Volvos.

I know this Cleo strip has appeared a couple of times previously….

and I remember a discussion about whether the elaborate “Running of the Bassets” portion had ever been a separate StelBel poster.

I believe Stel said no…. that it’s only been seen as the dream portion of this animation, with Cleo in the foreground.

Yet most of us were willing to swear… maybe even bet good kibble…. that we’d seen it before on its own.

I guess it’s just so striking, we all had the same false memory.

Those men were so scared of the bassets that they went number 1 and number 2 in their pants. Those men will be begging their wives to change their dirty diapers. Cleo and the rest of the bassets are just rolling around and laughing.

I wonder how many of the people running in Cleo’s dream she has managed to bite. I mean, she can’t gore them, and she can’t trample them, so what else has she got to pose a danger & inspire fear?

All right, no more of that. That made me snorf my morning coffee out of my nose.

I’ve always wondered what my dogs were dreaming about, so now I will forever get this image in my head when their legs are going.

Thems the brakes.

Well at least she’s getting her exercise.

Do any of you remember the “Northern Exposure” episode with the Running of the Bulls? Say no more.

At least the bassets can’t gore anyone. Lot of that going on this year.
