Um….. Doctor Toon, Sir, I apologize for being so demanding and loud. Please don’t hurt me, its okay I will be perfectly fine without coffee. Thank you.
Hello Lonewolf, I thought you were going to bed when you said P & L to both of you I didn’t realize you were talking about WildCheetah. Must be another blonde thing.
Grog I accidently had something fall on the enter key on my number pad.
Lonewolf ~ There is just something about this computer system that will not let me make those characters. I tried it at the library and it worked. Who knows?
It would have been kind of funny if I had left it but the powers that be would have probably got me for spamming. I didn’t realize how much I posted I just started deleting and counting.
Yes, hopefully if I had not realized my mistake they would have been understanding since I haven’t done it before. I had no idea it could be done. (laughter)
Grog–Actually we have a bye this week on our Saturday team, but I am going to get some practice in if I get a car done. I scheduled it for repairs since I did not have any pool today.
Well, I will bid you two wonderful people a Good Night as I do need to be up for a fairly early repair appt. Thanks for keeping me entertained this evening/morning!
DOC TOON How Dare WILDCHEETA assume that I am normal. Give me a NUC COFFEE and use a blowtorch to burn off the cream on top.Normal? Hmph! I’ll show you normal. Just for that I’m going to skip breakfast (not coffee) and waste away to skin and bones,When I die of malnutrition you’ll be sorry, but my glowing bones will come back to haunt you.
Morning TRIBE! Thanks to DOC I’ll be buried in a lead coffin.
Good Morning All! Doc T, your new cat icon is scary, to me, looks like a cat wearing a squirrel’s clothing. (Jus’ sayin’.) Happy Saturday All! (looks warily towards the gulf)
Doc, the food was still warm and quite tasty. I’m steering clear of the Nuclear Coffee for now. I may have some later on though.
I’m off to laugh at some toons, BBL.
Good Morning All. Anyone begging for coffee is in need of serious help. Coffee please, Doc can’t you turn up the pressure on that pipeline please, please.
Gee whiz Doc, that’s a first in a long time! Now tell me the truth, did you make breakfast yuorself, or did wildcheetah or did you send out for it? Or, HAVE YOU FINALLY discovered what that big white square thing in the kitchen does? :-D
I’m fixing cornish game hens for lunch, with angel food pasta and beets. There’s plenty to go around, I’ll put it next to the buffet to keep warm. Ice cream is in the freezer and hot brownies being kept warm in the oven. BYOB.
I’m sitting here at the ‘puter with a sack of bones in my lap nuzzling me and trying to make biscuits. Stormy’s more wobbly today, mostly wanting to be held. I swear I didn’t think a cat could get skinnier than she was last Saturday, but she has surpassed that record accomplishment. Just keeping her comfy an loved and hoping she just curls up for a nap and forgets to wake up.
Week went ok though. This new idea of a phone team and a booking team is working IMHO. I take care of the email bookings…there’s not many of them. We’re ADDING two more people in our office, inside sales reps. Should be interesting.
Anyway, not much else happening. Finally saw The Happening, weird movie. Not as graphic as it could have been, thank God. Catch ya’ll later.
I decided to go to H-E-B today to say if they had any of the things I was looking for.
They had Inglehoffer hot horseradish mustard, but not hot horse raddish. They did have variety though, and since my stock is very low I decided on the Boarshead brand. At least it didn’t look watery.
cleo, I saw a Libby’s brand of canned sauerkraut, but resisted the urge.
At the last minute I remembered to get some ice cream and root beer, so some ice cream’s going to be floating soon.
Grog and Cleo, I use canned sauerkraut for sandwiches or salads but I like the stuff in the meat department in the plastic bags (3 # bags) for pork and kruat. Oh I have a great recipe with chicken, carrots, beer and sauerkraut for a slow cooker, too.
I’ve never had sauerkraut with chicken before, Dry.
When living in Montreal, we used to go to a Brasserie (A tavern that allows women) for pigs knuckles & kraut. with choice of spud. The knuckles were boiled in beer.
There is also a place on the east side of town called the Old Munich. It had great German food, beer, schnapps and of course live German music in the evening.
I havent’t seen pig’s knuckles down here and ham hocks just don’t cut the mustard.
Grog Ham hocks are GREAT if you’re making ham, green beans and potatoes, or ham pot pie! Ever had the PA Dutch staple, ham pot pie? I’ll bet you would love it!
Can’t say I’ve had a ham pot pie. Chicken and turkey pot pies are the ones I see in the markets. I’ll have to check the frozen food ailes more closely, but I don’t think I’ve seen them.
As for recipes for the home-made variety, I don’t think I have any. I may have to take another look at my Frugal Gourmet cook books to see if a recipe is in there for that.
Never been to PA. Been to NY, VT, NH, ME, MA, NJ, OH, SC, LA, MT, TN KY & AZ.
Grog and Cleo In case you are interested:
3# broiler-fryer, cut up, rub with 2 teaspoons salt and 1/4 teaspoon pepper, in 5 qt dutch oven, brown chicken in 2 tablespoons oil until chicken is browned well, remove from pan. (At this point you can put in slow cooker or continue cooking in the dutch oven). If going back to the dutch oven, remoe the oil from the pan, put chicken back in pan and add 1 32 oz pack OR 2 16 ounce cans of DRAINED sauerkraut, 1 12 oz can or bottle of beer (any beer will do, but dark beer tastes the best), 4 medium carrots cut in 2 inch slices (or the eqiuvalent amount of baby carrots), 2 tablespoons dark brown sugar (light brown will work if you don’t have dark). Heat mixture JUST to boiling, reduce heat to low, cover and simmer for 45 minutes or until chicken is tender. (If using a slow cooker, 6 hours.)
Please, Dry, I’ll take that recipe, too. Always like to try something different - unless I don’t like the ingredients.
But I’ll give you fair warning, I don’t like anything with green beans. Never did like them.
My Mom once grew green beans in her garden. Unfortunately, they were the best harvest of anything she had ever planted. If I didn’t like green beens before she planted, I learned to hate them after they were harvested.
Grog depends on how soon you want to eat. You know slow cookers make everything tender if not cooked forever. I have a bigger slow cooker than I need, and if I leave it overnight, it often overcooks. LOL! Still good, but would be better if I didn’t cook it as long. There again, with the slow cooker the meat will fall off the bones, and then you’ll have chicken bones to be careful of if it cooks too long. Sorry, that was a longer answer than you wanted I guess! :-)
Grog that’s too bad! I love green beans, esp. cold Dilly beans! I guess you could make the ham and green beans with cabbage and carrots and onions and skip the green beans!
I’ll get you the pot pie recipe here in a sec.
Sorry Grog! Got side-tracked! It’s 90 degrees here and I am LOVING it! Then I remembered I said I’d give you the pot pie recipe. So:
First off, you may have to make your own pot pie dough, don’t know if you can find it in Texas (o r Washington, Cleo)
For the dough you need: 2 eggs, 2 cups flour, 1/2 cup milk or cream. Break the eggs into the flour, keep working it, adding a little milk each time, until you get a soft dough. Roll the dough out as thin as possible and cut into 1” x 2” (approximate) squares. add it to your ham and broth and keep cooking until the dough is tender.
Now you can use 2 ham hocks, or a 3 1/2 -4 lb hunk of ham, bone in, and cook slowly in oven for about 1 - 1 1/2 hrs. at 325. Be sure you have enough water in there to cover the meat at all times. That will be your broth. Now I like to let it cool and refrigerate overnight so I can skim off the grease that will come to the top. The next day, (you can oven cook, or cook on top of stove) I prefer the oven. Break your meat apart into small pieces, or cut into cubes, add about 4 potatoes sliced thin, a big whole onion, the ham and pot pie dough. If you’re doing in the oven, turn the heat up this time to 350 -375, depending on how hot your oven is, and cook until the pot pie and potatoes are tender. Add parsley, preferably fresh, for a little extra flavor and color.
Serve with a relish side dish, celery, radishes, carrots, etc. and some good crusty bread.
You may be able to find Pot Pie noodles (or Bott Boi as Muellers markets it) already packaged like other pastas, I don’t know, since it is a PA Dutch dish.
I just got a great idea. I’m going to look in Amazon.com’s online store. If I can’t find the brands you’ve mentioned, cleo for horseradish & sauerkraut, maybe I can find some highly rated brands online.
Hi Rmom. Still haven’t left yet. Still mulling over my online horseradish choices. Looks like Inglehoffer over Morehouse Extra Hot Atomic Horseradish Hot Hoseradish. Theres Amazon prime (free shipping on the Inglehoffer.
Got out in the yard early (about 9 a.m.). So mowed the lawn and got the little garden plot ready for the plants. Mom is frustrated that she isn’t up to getting out there and helping. Told her to let the meds work and she’ll be feeling more like it.
Did some errands and now, I’m pooped and ready be a mouse potato and read the comics.
Dry we make chicken pot pie like that except no eggs in the dough, only flour, pinch of baking soda and salt (or use self rising flour) and water. Boil your chicken parts (or can use gizzards) in the pot. When chicken is tender add the dough squares and boil until done. Think of it as very thin dumplings.
Have tried a frozen brand of dough I think it’s Grandma Anne’s or something like that. Similar, but not quite as good as my grandma’s.
That recipe sounds good Dry. I would make my own dough. I love ham hocks. One thing I haven’t looked for in years, that I used to eat with my dad, are pickled pigs feet. They were tasty with a beer.
How has your Saturday been Terry? I have had a lazy day. My wife went to a funeral in Seattle and has just left the city. I went to the Farmer’s Market and just wandered around and I am now spending time on the deck reading a book.
Grog you might be able to find horseradish root in your local grocery store, or a speciality store. Any grocery store that sells jicama, probably would have horseradish root.
Cleo you may be able to find Pickled Pigs feet in the deli section where they sell the jarred hot sausage in vinegar brine, Claussen Pickles etc. That’s where they are in our grcoery stores.
Saucy I have made chicken pot pie, also beef pot pie, but han pot pie is our favorite. That is a real “comfort” food! Another one of my comfort foods is Stouffers Cheddar Baked Potatoes.
Doc have you gotten your store to order those in yet?
Food, I love talking about food. I grew horseradish and tried to make it into a sauce, without any luck, it just wasn’t hot. I probably screwed something up.
Cleo–My Saturday has gone just fine. A little busy though. Since our pool team had a “bye” this week, I took in a couple of auto repair jobs. Got the one done this morning and picked up the other one for tomorrow. Been great weather here today!
I haven’t gone to a Farmer’s Market in quite some time now. It is fun to me.
Terry, in my community we have two farmer’s markets and they run from April to December, but are at their best in the summer, when all the veggies are at their peak.
Cleo, I just remember that I did enjoy going to them on the weekends with certain people. Around here they have several ones during the nice months. Some are very week, some every two weeks, etc. It varies depending on how far you want to drive.
Veggies tend to be on the expensive side, but are very good. I love when the tomatoes are ripe, it’s the only time of the year when they are good and it is like eating candy. We have a farm that is located in town that grows vegetables and flowers only. When their produce is ripe it is the best place to buy it, very reasonable prices and lettuce so big you can barely get it into a white plastic grocery bag.
Cleo we have three farmers markets around here two are handy, and one is about 19 miles away. The local ones run from June through October, November if weather permits. There is talk of taking one of the empty buildings in downtown and making it into a Farmer’s Market/Craft building that would run year round, though the produce part would not work in the winter months! Wonder why? :-)
Cleo In summer, I try to grow a lot of my own things. I only use pesticides if I have to, which I rarely do, and when I do, it is a mild pesticide. Most of the time, I am able to hand pick the pests off. The ones I love are the tomato horn worms! That is like a game to me! I follow their trail, the way they eat the leaves off my tomato plants. They are SO hard to see because they blend in so well with the tomato stalks! They look so interesting, they are actually pretty. When I find them, I don’t have the heart to kill them, so I pick them off and move them WAY up back away from my garden!
I wasn’t asleep, ♠Lonewolf♠. I was just doing my usual Saturday night dinner thing, which takes me away from my computer. I must admit I feel like I can use another nap.
Dry, when I was on the Amazon site, I did notice that they had horseradish root. So if I had a good recipe for a “hot’ horseradish, I may consider buying it.
I do not even think of buying horseradish sauce or mustard.
Grog before you buy horseradish root on line, I would try to buy it locally. If you don’t want to run around looking for it, call your local stores or google them if they have a website. Like I said, if you saw the post, it is a” tearing” experience, but well worth the effort. You can also grow your own, but I never did, so you would have to research how to do that.
I got more tears from that than I ever did canning hot peppers, even with habaneros! LOL!
Grog I know Boarshead, but only in lunch meat. Our grocery store carries that and a few other varities of deli meats. And I never knew there was a mild horseradish, at least none I’ve seen. Oh wait I take back. Kraft horseradish was NOT hot! Gold’s is pretty good for store bought!
LuvH8, After my brunch and my chat with cleo & Dry, snoozed a bit then I spent some time online trying to look up the kind of horseradish & some other things I can’t get in Houston. I can probably get a lot of other things that are of no interest to me, but not always what I am accustomed to getting.
Once I was done with that it was almost time to think of dinner.
Doc you must have a good metabolism! I eat constantly and get kidded about how small I am. When I used to pack my lunches at work, when we only got a half hour to eat, the guys used to call me Jethro (from the Beverly Hilbillies!) But I keep busy, and try, mind you, TRY, to keep away from too much junk food! LOL! But I do LOVE Salt and Vinegar chips!
Doc yes if I’m thinking along your lines, all that lifting and pulling would keep you in shape. I swore I was going to get back into walkiing today since it was so beautiful out, but I ended up working outdoors, and in actuality, that was probably better exercise than just walking! It was SO nice here today! SUMMER HAS ARRIVED! Even if it is only May 1st!
Grog i like them both, but Fritos with a good dip, out weighs the Pringles. My one kid, loves the Pringles, now that they have all these new flavors, he is into most all of them.
I have solved my addiction to chips, I don’t buy them. I can not eat just a few chips, I have to eat almost the whole bag. I guess I am not addicted, because I do not crave them now that I don’t have them. I can also go to a party and not eat them. I decided I wanted to be slim so I removed all of the items that conflicted with that. I didn’t change my dinners, I just changed the way that I eat between meals.
Grog I hear you! When I am hungry and want to munch, I will go through the cupboards looking for something, and if they are there, I will grab the bag and start eating! Before I know it, I’ve finished half a bag!
Dry, I think I am fortunate not having a weight problem with my addictions, considering I have a desk job. I exercise, but not as much as I should, certainly not since moving to the Houston area,
Dry I love certain nuts. I try to make sure that the polyunsaturated fats far outweight the saturated fats though. I like pistachio nuts & pecan and yes cashews.
Oddly enough, almonds are not among my favorites. Not that I eat a lot of chocolate, but you won’t catch me eating an Almond Joy.
Grog I would be in the emergency room with pistachios, pecans or cashews! I used to be able to eat pistachios until I was about 15. Went to a church luncheon, ate some green pudding, turned out to be pistachio pudding, after the first bire, I knew I was in trouble! One bite, I swelled up like a balloon, couldn’t breath, my mom took me to the hospital emergency room!
Nuts are another thing I have to be careful with. I can shove handfuls into my mouth, so I try to buy nuts that I have to shell. But cashews are one of my favorites and of course they are poisonous in their shell. Not buying them to begin with is my salvation. Now chocolate, I can not do without dark chocolate. I love the dark chocolate with ground nuts, or ground mint candies, or chili peppers.
I agree Grog. I have never been a pretzel fan until I tried these. Put another pretzel in front of me and I won’t touch it. The pumernickel ones are straight and about the thickness of a pen and are good swiped through dijon. Granted, it doesn’t beat a kettle chip. My favorite chips are an PNW chip called Tims. They are so good and crunchy and oily. LOL
Cleo , I LOVE Pumpernickel! And Pumpernickel pretzels, don’t have Trader Joe’s here, but we do have Snyder’s and Rold Gold. I like them plain or with Dijon or with Ingelhoffer’s, and if I have neither, I mix yellow mustard and horseradish together for a dip!
I own “Some Like It Hot”. It is one of my favorite movies. I remember, as a kid, sitting in my grandpa’s living room in Egeland, North Dakota watching it. My aunt and uncle were there and mentioned that the shoot out in the garage was based on the St. Valentine’s Day massacre. They lived nearby and heard the gunfire of the real deal.
Cleo, as long as I have known you, do you know how MANY times I have typed Celo, instead of Cleo and had to go back and edit my posts? I just did it again! ROFLMAO!!!
Dry, One of my Doctors while in Dallas told me to eat more nuts (for their fibre value). I took it a step further and tried to come up with some of the more heart-healthy, given my cholesterol situation. The Higher the other fats but lower the sat fats, the better. Fortunately some of those were palatable. Of course, I’m lucky I’m not allergic like you are. For me, I think eating Almonds are like eating tree bark. Go figure.
Just an opinion based on my own personal tastes, Dry If I were to get a can of those mixed nuts, I would likely eat everything and weed out the almonds.
I prefer getting cans of 100% of one of the nuts I like. After today’s shopping, I’ve got a can of pecans and cashews, while trying to chow down on the mixed nuts.
Yes Grog I just can’t get over THAT! Not like green beans? Geez man! I have a friend. HIs mom told me once, the FIRST words out of his mouth, when he was a baby, wasn’t mom, or da-da, it was “I hate green beans!” He’s 49 now and still hates green beans!
I can eat cream-style too, ♠Lonewolf♠, but it’s not my favorite. Corn on the cob in season is to die for, properly buttered, then salt and double peppered. If I can’t have that I’ll take niblets or corn chips.
Terry it is a TV show dealing with lawyers and their clients and everybody is suspect. One season deals with one case and nobody comes across as unblemished. Intense and interesting.
Grog, I have the complete 6 seasons of “Hogan’s Heroes” and it is funny to see W. Christopher as a German soldier as well as an American soldier. So young!
Glad to do my part on the corn nut situation. “Damages” is probably the best TV show that I have seen in years. The unfortunate thing about it is it really diminishes your respect for people.
♠Lonewolf♠, It’s funny how times have changed, but there was a time when some managers actually had a bottle in their desk. (One of our IT people was soused on a Saturday of all days, when we needed him most). Now no one is exempt from drug & alcohol testing.
I am sorry, there are a couple of alcoholic beverages that are okay. I can’t have any though because of my medication. I don’t mind if other people indulge.
My internet connection is sucking majorly again today. So I am out of here.
♠Lonewolf♠, I remember that too. I also have the 6 season of HH. I got a kick out of Arlene Martel (Tiger) who I’ve seen on a number of other shows including The Twilight Zone & Star Trek.
I never thought I’d be called a young whippersnapper at my age. Since I’ve moved down to the Houston area, I’ve been called “Sir” by more people I care to count in or out of the office, and I’m not a manager or by no means the oldest or near the oldest.

Good Morning (afternoon) Tribe
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
I decided to go to H-E-B today to say if they had any of the things I was looking for.
They had Inglehoffer hot horseradish mustard, but not hot horse raddish. They did have variety though, and since my stock is very low I decided on the Boarshead brand. At least it didn’t look watery.
cleo, I saw a Libby’s brand of canned sauerkraut, but resisted the urge.
At the last minute I remembered to get some ice cream and root beer, so some ice cream’s going to be floating soon.

Hi & Bye Quaby Good Morning, ♠Lonewolf♠!
COWBOY7 about 14 years ago
Good Morning, Quaby.
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
cleo, the Libby’s brand had the caraway seeds.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 14 years ago
Grog and Cleo, I use canned sauerkraut for sandwiches or salads but I like the stuff in the meat department in the plastic bags (3 # bags) for pork and kruat. Oh I have a great recipe with chicken, carrots, beer and sauerkraut for a slow cooker, too.
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
I’ve never had sauerkraut with chicken before, Dry. When living in Montreal, we used to go to a Brasserie (A tavern that allows women) for pigs knuckles & kraut. with choice of spud. The knuckles were boiled in beer.
There is also a place on the east side of town called the Old Munich. It had great German food, beer, schnapps and of course live German music in the evening.
I havent’t seen pig’s knuckles down here and ham hocks just don’t cut the mustard.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 14 years ago
Grog Ham hocks are GREAT if you’re making ham, green beans and potatoes, or ham pot pie! Ever had the PA Dutch staple, ham pot pie? I’ll bet you would love it!
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
Can’t say I’ve had a ham pot pie. Chicken and turkey pot pies are the ones I see in the markets. I’ll have to check the frozen food ailes more closely, but I don’t think I’ve seen them.
As for recipes for the home-made variety, I don’t think I have any. I may have to take another look at my Frugal Gourmet cook books to see if a recipe is in there for that.
Never been to PA. Been to NY, VT, NH, ME, MA, NJ, OH, SC, LA, MT, TN KY & AZ.
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
My boss is actually from PA, originally. Like me, he is too used to Texas to go back home.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 14 years ago
Grog and Cleo In case you are interested: 3# broiler-fryer, cut up, rub with 2 teaspoons salt and 1/4 teaspoon pepper, in 5 qt dutch oven, brown chicken in 2 tablespoons oil until chicken is browned well, remove from pan.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 14 years ago
Grog where in PA is your boss from?
You won’t find ham pot pie in the grocery store. I’m talking the real deal here. I can give you the recipe if you’d like. It’s not a pie with a crust.
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
This is probably a no-brainer, but which brings the best results, Dry - the dutch oven or the slow cooker?
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
He’s from Pittsburgh. Still has his Steelers season tickets.
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
Please, Dry, I’ll take that recipe, too. Always like to try something different - unless I don’t like the ingredients.
But I’ll give you fair warning, I don’t like anything with green beans. Never did like them.
My Mom once grew green beans in her garden. Unfortunately, they were the best harvest of anything she had ever planted. If I didn’t like green beens before she planted, I learned to hate them after they were harvested.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 14 years ago
Grog depends on how soon you want to eat. You know slow cookers make everything tender if not cooked forever. I have a bigger slow cooker than I need, and if I leave it overnight, it often overcooks. LOL! Still good, but would be better if I didn’t cook it as long. There again, with the slow cooker the meat will fall off the bones, and then you’ll have chicken bones to be careful of if it cooks too long. Sorry, that was a longer answer than you wanted I guess! :-)
Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 14 years ago
Grog that’s too bad! I love green beans, esp. cold Dilly beans! I guess you could make the ham and green beans with cabbage and carrots and onions and skip the green beans! I’ll get you the pot pie recipe here in a sec.
cleokaya about 14 years ago
Grog, if the Libbys had caraway you could try it. In all likelihood it would probably be good.
cleokaya about 14 years ago
But I have never found horseradish as hot as Marie’s or Marina. I never see Marie’s anymore, but as I said, both were in the cooler section.
COWBOY7 about 14 years ago
Cleo & Grog. Libbys is a good brand for sauerkraut with caraway seeds. It has the flavoring similar to Bush’s brand.
COWBOY7 about 14 years ago
Well, since I am done with the work I’ll go enjoy whats’ left of the nice day. Catch you all later!
Have fun.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 14 years ago
Sorry Grog! Got side-tracked! It’s 90 degrees here and I am LOVING it! Then I remembered I said I’d give you the pot pie recipe. So: First off, you may have to make your own pot pie dough, don’t know if you can find it in Texas (o r Washington, Cleo) For the dough you need: 2 eggs, 2 cups flour, 1/2 cup milk or cream.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 14 years ago
cleo did you ever try to make your own horseradish? It’s a tearing experience, but worth it!
Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 14 years ago
Too nice a day, I’ll catch up later!
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
Hi again, Dry. I actually took a nap. Thanks for the recipe.
I actually thought about making my own horseradish, but I’m wondering where I can find the key ingredient.
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
I just got a great idea. I’m going to look in Amazon.com’s online store. If I can’t find the brands you’ve mentioned, cleo for horseradish & sauerkraut, maybe I can find some highly rated brands online.
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
I think I’ll go make myself a rootbeer float.
Smiley Rmom about 14 years ago
Grog - Will you make me a Pepsi float? (bats eyelashes) Pretty please?
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
Hi Rmom. Still haven’t left yet. Still mulling over my online horseradish choices. Looks like Inglehoffer over Morehouse Extra Hot Atomic Horseradish Hot Hoseradish. Theres Amazon prime (free shipping on the Inglehoffer.
One Pepsi float coming up.
cleo No Marina brand online.

Good afternoon, tribe.
Saucy1121 Premium Member about 14 years ago
Dry we make chicken pot pie like that except no eggs in the dough, only flour, pinch of baking soda and salt (or use self rising flour) and water. Boil your chicken parts (or can use gizzards) in the pot. When chicken is tender add the dough squares and boil until done. Think of it as very thin dumplings.
Have tried a frozen brand of dough I think it’s Grandma Anne’s or something like that. Similar, but not quite as good as my grandma’s.
Smiley Rmom about 14 years ago
Yum! Thanks, Grog! I’m needing my hubby to do some geek work while he’s here & semi-awake. BBL

Hello Terry, Saucy and Rmom.
That recipe sounds good Dry. I would make my own dough. I love ham hocks. One thing I haven’t looked for in years, that I used to eat with my dad, are pickled pigs feet. They were tasty with a beer.
COWBOY7 about 14 years ago
Good afternoon Saucy, Rmom, Grog & Cleo
I need to go pick up a vehicle in a little bit here.
cleokaya about 14 years ago
How has your Saturday been Terry? I have had a lazy day. My wife went to a funeral in Seattle and has just left the city. I went to the Farmer’s Market and just wandered around and I am now spending time on the deck reading a book.
cleokaya about 14 years ago
Howdy Doc. That is called age my friend, you are probably going to increase the potency from nuclear to nuclear energy.
cleokaya about 14 years ago
Take care Doc.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 14 years ago
Grog you might be able to find horseradish root in your local grocery store, or a speciality store. Any grocery store that sells jicama, probably would have horseradish root.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 14 years ago
Cleo you may be able to find Pickled Pigs feet in the deli section where they sell the jarred hot sausage in vinegar brine, Claussen Pickles etc. That’s where they are in our grcoery stores.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 14 years ago
Saucy I have made chicken pot pie, also beef pot pie, but han pot pie is our favorite. That is a real “comfort” food! Another one of my comfort foods is Stouffers Cheddar Baked Potatoes.
Doc have you gotten your store to order those in yet?
COWBOY7 about 14 years ago
Hello everyone!
Back again for a while.
cleokaya about 14 years ago
Food, I love talking about food. I grew horseradish and tried to make it into a sauce, without any luck, it just wasn’t hot. I probably screwed something up.
COWBOY7 about 14 years ago
Cleo–My Saturday has gone just fine. A little busy though. Since our pool team had a “bye” this week, I took in a couple of auto repair jobs. Got the one done this morning and picked up the other one for tomorrow. Been great weather here today!
I haven’t gone to a Farmer’s Market in quite some time now. It is fun to me.
COWBOY7 about 14 years ago
Enjoy your evening, Doc!
COWBOY7 about 14 years ago
Did you fall asleep again, Grog? lol
cleokaya about 14 years ago
Terry, in my community we have two farmer’s markets and they run from April to December, but are at their best in the summer, when all the veggies are at their peak.
COWBOY7 about 14 years ago
Cleo, I just remember that I did enjoy going to them on the weekends with certain people. Around here they have several ones during the nice months. Some are very week, some every two weeks, etc. It varies depending on how far you want to drive.
cleokaya about 14 years ago
Veggies tend to be on the expensive side, but are very good. I love when the tomatoes are ripe, it’s the only time of the year when they are good and it is like eating candy. We have a farm that is located in town that grows vegetables and flowers only. When their produce is ripe it is the best place to buy it, very reasonable prices and lettuce so big you can barely get it into a white plastic grocery bag.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 14 years ago
Cleo we have three farmers markets around here two are handy, and one is about 19 miles away. The local ones run from June through October, November if weather permits. There is talk of taking one of the empty buildings in downtown and making it into a Farmer’s Market/Craft building that would run year round, though the produce part would not work in the winter months! Wonder why? :-)
cleokaya about 14 years ago
We try to buy as many foods that were produced locally as possible, for taste and to lower our carbon footprint.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 14 years ago
Cleo In summer, I try to grow a lot of my own things. I only use pesticides if I have to, which I rarely do, and when I do, it is a mild pesticide. Most of the time, I am able to hand pick the pests off. The ones I love are the tomato horn worms! That is like a game to me! I follow their trail, the way they eat the leaves off my tomato plants. They are SO hard to see because they blend in so well with the tomato stalks! They look so interesting, they are actually pretty. When I find them, I don’t have the heart to kill them, so I pick them off and move them WAY up back away from my garden!
cleokaya about 14 years ago
We have to be careful what we use as well Dry, living on a lake and having it be our source of drinking water.
Off to make dinner.
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
I wasn’t asleep, ♠Lonewolf♠. I was just doing my usual Saturday night dinner thing, which takes me away from my computer. I must admit I feel like I can use another nap.
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
Dry, when I was on the Amazon site, I did notice that they had horseradish root. So if I had a good recipe for a “hot’ horseradish, I may consider buying it.
I do not even think of buying horseradish sauce or mustard.

Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 14 years ago
Grog before you buy horseradish root on line, I would try to buy it locally. If you don’t want to run around looking for it, call your local stores or google them if they have a website. Like I said, if you saw the post, it is a” tearing” experience, but well worth the effort. You can also grow your own, but I never did, so you would have to research how to do that. I got more tears from that than I ever did canning hot peppers, even with habaneros! LOL!
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
Sounds like you got my morning down. But I deviated from my planned afternoon course.
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
Dry do you make a “hot” horseradish or the mild kind. By the way, Boarshead is not bad - it’s just not hot.
I’ll have to look up Kroger online since that is my preferred local grocer.
Ooops! Premium Member about 14 years ago
What did you do with your afternoon?
Ooops! Premium Member about 14 years ago
Good Evening Doc T
Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 14 years ago
Grog I know Boarshead, but only in lunch meat. Our grocery store carries that and a few other varities of deli meats. And I never knew there was a mild horseradish, at least none I’ve seen. Oh wait I take back. Kraft horseradish was NOT hot! Gold’s is pretty good for store bought!
Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 14 years ago
Oh Doc if you got wildcheetah to make the ham pot pie, I think you would be delighted! Good eatin’ there, my man! Best part is the pot pie squares!
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
Hi, Doc. Well said.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 14 years ago
Well I guess Doc is on his way to putting on some pounds, maybe? What say you Doc? LOL!
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
By the way, LuvH8 you would be describled as a “choco-haulic” and I’m a a food (and toon) ahaulic. :-)
Ooops! Premium Member about 14 years ago

GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
Dry, Fritos and Pringles are my “problem”
Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 14 years ago
Doc yes if I’m thinking along your lines, all that lifting and pulling would keep you in shape. I swore I was going to get back into walkiing today since it was so beautiful out, but I ended up working outdoors, and in actuality, that was probably better exercise than just walking! It was SO nice here today! SUMMER HAS ARRIVED! Even if it is only May 1st!
Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 14 years ago
Grog i like them both, but Fritos with a good dip, out weighs the Pringles. My one kid, loves the Pringles, now that they have all these new flavors, he is into most all of them.
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
Dry, I don’t even need the dip. I’ll take ‘em straight up. I think that’s where I get most of my salt.
cleokaya about 14 years ago
I have solved my addiction to chips, I don’t buy them. I can not eat just a few chips, I have to eat almost the whole bag. I guess I am not addicted, because I do not crave them now that I don’t have them. I can also go to a party and not eat them. I decided I wanted to be slim so I removed all of the items that conflicted with that. I didn’t change my dinners, I just changed the way that I eat between meals.
Ooops! Premium Member about 14 years ago

Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 14 years ago
And pretzels, and popcorn, or a whole can of Diamond Almonds. Of course, almonds are good for you!
Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 14 years ago
I have a SEVERE allergy to tree nuts, most people don’t realize that almonds and peanuts are NOT tree nuts! Therefore I can eat them, thank goodness!
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
Dry, I think I am fortunate not having a weight problem with my addictions, considering I have a desk job. I exercise, but not as much as I should, certainly not since moving to the Houston area,
cleokaya about 14 years ago
My new snack is Trader Joe’s Pumpernickel Pretzels with Dijon mustard as a dip.
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
Dry I love certain nuts. I try to make sure that the polyunsaturated fats far outweight the saturated fats though. I like pistachio nuts & pecan and yes cashews.
Oddly enough, almonds are not among my favorites. Not that I eat a lot of chocolate, but you won’t catch me eating an Almond Joy.
Go figure.
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
I never did like pretzels, cleo, which may be kind of odd coming from a certified beer drinker, like me.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 14 years ago
Grog I would be in the emergency room with pistachios, pecans or cashews! I used to be able to eat pistachios until I was about 15. Went to a church luncheon, ate some green pudding, turned out to be pistachio pudding, after the first bire, I knew I was in trouble! One bite, I swelled up like a balloon, couldn’t breath, my mom took me to the hospital emergency room!
cleokaya about 14 years ago
Nuts are another thing I have to be careful with. I can shove handfuls into my mouth, so I try to buy nuts that I have to shell. But cashews are one of my favorites and of course they are poisonous in their shell. Not buying them to begin with is my salvation. Now chocolate, I can not do without dark chocolate. I love the dark chocolate with ground nuts, or ground mint candies, or chili peppers.
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
cleo, not sure what’s on for you tonight, but Some Like It Hot is currently on TCM. Another one of those classics you’ll not be able to see tonight.
cleokaya about 14 years ago
I agree Grog. I have never been a pretzel fan until I tried these. Put another pretzel in front of me and I won’t touch it. The pumernickel ones are straight and about the thickness of a pen and are good swiped through dijon. Granted, it doesn’t beat a kettle chip. My favorite chips are an PNW chip called Tims. They are so good and crunchy and oily. LOL
Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 14 years ago
Cleo , I LOVE Pumpernickel! And Pumpernickel pretzels, don’t have Trader Joe’s here, but we do have Snyder’s and Rold Gold. I like them plain or with Dijon or with Ingelhoffer’s, and if I have neither, I mix yellow mustard and horseradish together for a dip!
cleokaya about 14 years ago
I own “Some Like It Hot”. It is one of my favorite movies. I remember, as a kid, sitting in my grandpa’s living room in Egeland, North Dakota watching it. My aunt and uncle were there and mentioned that the shoot out in the garage was based on the St. Valentine’s Day massacre. They lived nearby and heard the gunfire of the real deal.

cleokaya about 14 years ago

Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 14 years ago
cleo nuts and dark chocolate are supposedly good for us, so you should be safe! Of course, they change things every couple of weeks, so who knows!
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
Dry, One of my Doctors while in Dallas told me to eat more nuts (for their fibre value). I took it a step further and tried to come up with some of the more heart-healthy, given my cholesterol situation. The Higher the other fats but lower the sat fats, the better. Fortunately some of those were palatable. Of course, I’m lucky I’m not allergic like you are. For me, I think eating Almonds are like eating tree bark. Go figure.
cleokaya about 14 years ago
Well I am a nut. I am just waiting for some young nymph to grab me, dip me in chocolate and get healthy.

Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 14 years ago
Cleo I as well enjoyed a normal chat! Enjoy your movie, my dear friend!
And you dare eat more than 4 almonds! LOL!
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
Just an opinion based on my own personal tastes, Dry If I were to get a can of those mixed nuts, I would likely eat everything and weed out the almonds.
I prefer getting cans of 100% of one of the nuts I like. After today’s shopping, I’ve got a can of pecans and cashews, while trying to chow down on the mixed nuts.
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago

Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 14 years ago
Yes Grog I just can’t get over THAT! Not like green beans? Geez man! I have a friend. HIs mom told me once, the FIRST words out of his mouth, when he was a baby, wasn’t mom, or da-da, it was “I hate green beans!” He’s 49 now and still hates green beans!

Grog, I know the part about food(LOL), but he is also a pleasure to talk to here in general. VERY pleasant.

I can eat cream-style too, ♠Lonewolf♠, but it’s not my favorite. Corn on the cob in season is to die for, properly buttered, then salt and double peppered. If I can’t have that I’ll take niblets or corn chips.
COWBOY7 about 14 years ago
Grog
Oh,oh,oh! Corn on the cob and I have learned how to do it on the grill in recent years! Niblets in the off season.
COWBOY7 about 14 years ago
Grog, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to cut down on salt. Everyone says it’s inevitable but I can’t see that happening.
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
♠Lonewolf♠, I don’t overdo it with the salt, but whether cob or niblets, I give it a light dusting of salt and a big BAM! BAM! of pepper!
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
With cream style it’s
BAM! BAM! BAM!Ooops! Premium Member about 14 years ago
It looks like vomit.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 14 years ago
Grog Ever eat corn nuts? Oh what a heavenly delight!
cleokaya about 14 years ago
Movie done. Me here.
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
It’s not that bad, but admittedly, it’s not that good either, LuvH8.
COWBOY7 about 14 years ago
I can echo that Grog
BAM! BAM! BAM!COWBOY7 about 14 years ago
Good evening, LuvH8!!!
COWBOY7 about 14 years ago
Hello, Cleo!!
cleokaya about 14 years ago
I love corn, either on the grill or in most any way.
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
Dry, I guess, I don’t get out much. Never heard of corn nuts.
COWBOY7 about 14 years ago
There’s not too much in the way of food that you don’t like, Cleo! :^)
cleokaya about 14 years ago
Hi Terry. I just finished watching my episode on dvd of “Damages.” That is one intense show.
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
cleo, that was a short movie. Was it one of those 70 minute 30’s classics?
COWBOY7 about 14 years ago
I had heard of corn nuts but was never introduced to them.
cleokaya about 14 years ago
No Terry, you are right, although corn nuts are way down the list of things that I will eat. To me, they are too crunchy.
cleokaya about 14 years ago
Grog we were watching a one hour episode of Damages which translates into about 41 minutes.
COWBOY7 about 14 years ago
I’ve never heard of “Damages”, Cleo.
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
You just answered my question, cleo.
Nevermind!Ooops! Premium Member about 14 years ago
Good Evening Lonewolf & Cleo
I want to sleep, but apparently it is not yet to be.
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
Right now I’m not up on foods too crunchy, such as kettle chips.
cleokaya about 14 years ago
Terry it is a TV show dealing with lawyers and their clients and everybody is suspect. One season deals with one case and nobody comes across as unblemished. Intense and interesting.
cleokaya about 14 years ago
Hello LuvH8.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 14 years ago
Oh Corn Nuts! Corn, dried, salted, and HEAVENLY! LOVE the CRUNCH!!!!
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
Have a beer, LuvH8. That may help after you broke down and had coffee today.
cleokaya about 14 years ago
Dry, you can have my share of corn nuts. In fact you can have my lifetime supply.
cleokaya about 14 years ago
Corn nuts are like chewing on gravel.
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
Hey the Browns & Vikings are on TV. I had to check to see what I’m watching and it’s The Fortune Cookie.
Ooops! Premium Member about 14 years ago
I have no alcohol in the house, except for the kind you use on boo-boos. I might have some sleeping pills though.
Beer Is BLECHY!!GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
Funny, cleo. Now that I have your critique, I think I’ll pass.
cleokaya about 14 years ago
there is no way to conduct a meeting without alcohol.
cleokaya about 14 years ago
Smart move Grog.
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
OK, to pull a line from Young Frankenstien, “Warm milk? Ovaltine!”
COWBOY7 about 14 years ago
Cleo–That show sounds interesting and as you say I am sure it is intense to watch.
I think you have also talked me out of corn nuts, Cleo!
COWBOY7 about 14 years ago
Sometimes there is now way to conduct a meeting WITH alcohol! Heheh.
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
William Christopher (From MASH) is in the movie I just metioned with Mathau & Lemon.
COWBOY7 about 14 years ago
Grog, I have the complete 6 seasons of “Hogan’s Heroes” and it is funny to see W. Christopher as a German soldier as well as an American soldier. So young!
cleokaya about 14 years ago
Glad to do my part on the corn nut situation. “Damages” is probably the best TV show that I have seen in years. The unfortunate thing about it is it really diminishes your respect for people.
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
♠Lonewolf♠, It’s funny how times have changed, but there was a time when some managers actually had a bottle in their desk. (One of our IT people was soused on a Saturday of all days, when we needed him most). Now no one is exempt from drug & alcohol testing.
Ooops! Premium Member about 14 years ago
I am sorry, there are a couple of alcoholic beverages that are okay. I can’t have any though because of my medication. I don’t mind if other people indulge.
My internet connection is sucking majorly again today. So I am out of here.
Rest In Peace Everyone
COWBOY7 about 14 years ago
I’m going to have to try and find some copies of it, Cleo. Sounds good.
cleokaya about 14 years ago
Since retired, I can be soused at all times.
cleokaya about 14 years ago
Good night LuvH8.
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
♠Lonewolf♠, I remember that too. I also have the 6 season of HH. I got a kick out of Arlene Martel (Tiger) who I’ve seen on a number of other shows including The Twilight Zone & Star Trek.
COWBOY7 about 14 years ago
Good Night, LuvH8. Glad I got to holler at you!
COWBOY7 about 14 years ago
Cleo, I just googled that show and there are some links to full episodes. I’ll try to check one out tomorrow after I finish the repair job.
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
Good Night LuvH8
cleo you are one of the lucky ones. I still have a little over 5 years.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 14 years ago
Well since no one likes corn nuts but me, I’ll take ‘em all! Best part is the SALT! And the CRUNCH!
cleokaya about 14 years ago
Well Grog that makes you a young whippersnapper and that is a good position to be in.
COWBOY7 about 14 years ago
Grog - Ah……………………………yes, Tiger! Grrrrowl!
I’ll keep the salt, though.
cleokaya about 14 years ago
Dry, you can have the salt and the crunch is like biting into asphalt.
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
I never thought I’d be called a young whippersnapper at my age. Since I’ve moved down to the Houston area, I’ve been called “Sir” by more people I care to count in or out of the office, and I’m not a manager or by no means the oldest or near the oldest.
