In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Always avoided Big Top because it made me hungry when my diet requires Dr Toon only. Guess I’ll stay with the tribe awhile and see if I go up a waist size.
With thanks and honor to those who are now and have in the past given of themselves and their families, a moment of silence.
My thanks to you and your families!
To all who have served, to all who are serving and to our future veterans, God bless you all and watch over you! To the often forgotten Army Nurses of WWII, those Angels of Mercy, a special blessing that the Lord watch over and keep you folded in his arms!
To All the veteran nurses of all the Military Services and of all conflicts both here and those that have been lost! And to all the volunteer forces that asisst the military! God Bless!
I need to get ready to leave. I am going to the VA Hospital, but not for my medical reasons today. When I was there for my appointment yesterday, I volunteered myself for today. I owe so much to all veterans and this is my way to say “thank you” each year.
You are correct Mopar. Thank you for the interest in the history of those special people. They have given us the right to learn and voice our opinions!
Good morning all! I finally finished that confounded paper! I still have to go through and cite the bleeep thing, but that can wait, now it is time for lunch.
Well, I guess I had better get outside and try to fill a sinkhole that has developed in my driveway. If you are off to bed soon Doc, take care and I will BBL.
Dry - I had left a comment at Bewley, but it somehow disappeared. I have been also having about a third of my comments appear twice as well. So it has been a day of deletes. I reposted at Bewley.
Sorry to miss you, DocT. Sleep well.
I’ve been following the Remembrance Day programming this AM. It sure brings home the sacrifices that have been made for all of us.
Tabby, there is no rest for the weary here, they have given me two more papers to right, all though they aren’t as long.
Good luck with your English paper!
I’m back. I’m exhausted & happy!
The smiles from the volunteer work at the hospital today was enough to keep me going a thousand years! Propably more than that.
MoPar - I would like that. I love sitting on my cigar deck looking out over the lake sipping scotch or cognac and smoking a cigar. Or after dark sitting at my fire pit watching and stirring the fire. Good conversation, nothing better.
Dry - I was only talking about my cigar deck. Did you know that I have two other decks overlooking the lake?
MoPar - I think they are a great source for cigars. When you find a special it always beats our local cigar stores, even the price at the best humidor locally at a native owned casino. The way to get the best deals are to give them your email address. That is how I shop with them. The catalog was how I initially became aware, now it is all online for me.
I don’t know Dry, my neighbor is still going on and on about Feisty Italian and Sarcastic big man. When he talks he uses a lot of hand gestures and the sushi knife slices the air like butter.
Do any of you have trouble changing your avatar? Ever since they made their major changes several months ago, it takes me 3 or more tries every time to get the avatar to change, repeating the same steps each time.
Hello Everyone! Thought I could get a break since it was a holiday, but no. I was busy all day. Finally got a chance to get on here. I’m off to catch up on my comics, BBL.
Many thanks to all that have served and to those that are serving now. Many thanks to all the medical personel for all they have done also.(My late brother was a medic during Vietnam).
Cleo, I’m sorry for not responding earlier to your question, but one of the inpatient veterans from the hospital just called to thank me personally! Evidently he went through a little trouble to get my phone number! That made my day more than worthwhile. Definitely a priceless gesture on his part.
So I would have to say my day was well spent and was a great day!
Terry - What a nice gesture on your part and the patient’s as well. I know that you do not do it for kudos, but it still warms a person’s heart to know that what they have done is appreciated.
Cleo, you’re right! All the way home, I was wondering if there was something more I could have done that I didn’t. I feel I owe so much to those individuals for giving me the freedom to decide!
Thanks Tabby, Dry & Terry. I never had problems with avatar changes until they made the big overhaul, but since then it is always an issue. I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that I have a Mac? It’s not that big of a deal, it’s just annoying.
Yes Terry, now Doc has to make all these public appearances and he is even being invited out for dinner. We are rapidly becoming third chair in a three chair coronet section.
Okay, I got sidetracked, but I read all my comics minus the comments. Reading the comment also takes forever.I read you all’s comment about Bewley, so I checked that out. I like it. Are there any other new, good comics?
A few days ago, I saw 2 firetrucks across the street at my neighbor’s house. I figured they had a small kitchen fire or something. I hadn’t seen them after and I wasn’t able to ask if all was well. Earlier this evening, I was getting my trashcans and the daughter from across the street, she may be my age or younger, told me that her live in boyfriend had a heart attack and died instantly. That’s why the firetrucks and ambulance were there. I hadn’t even noticed the ambulance. He was a Navy Veteran. He had a job working on base as a mechanic. I only talked to him a few times, he was a nice man.
Carmy I think I know how you feel. Maybe. back in the blizzard of ‘93 our neighbor down the hill right below us, was out shoveling his driveway, we saw him go in the house and then we saw the ambulance trying to come up the road. They had a terrrible time getting up our road. We saw in the paper the next day that he had died. I had just talked to him 2 days before that.
The lady across the street wasn’t home when her boyfriend died. Her parents were home, they called 911. When the lady got home, they were still trying to revive him.
I hugged her and asked if I could do anything for her, she said no.
Dry, I heard that snow shoveling is a major cause of heart attacks. I thought my Dad had died from pancreas cancer, but it was actually a heart attack that killed him.
I’m sorry I’m being a downer. Time to change the subject.
Doesn’t today feel like a Sunday?
(((Carmy)))- Not to me. It is funny though that even though I have been retired for a number of years, Sunday is still a day I have those same feelings about. The oh my gosh tomorrow is Monday feelings. LOL
Yes Terry, I added it as well. I actually removed about 4 or 5 comics today, such as Academia Waltz. I have read them all and there is no reason to reread them. I liked them a lot, but life is about other things as well. * Doc* and I used to be about the only 2 consistent postings on AW. I do not know if he still reads it, but I don’t.
Carmy - LOL, now that is the way to look at Sundays. I have been very lucky with my family and my wife’s family. I actually always look forward to seeing them.
You ALL have me adding from time to time. I see one of you post about a strip and next thing I know it’s on my home page. That is MY Toonland merry-go-round! And it is getting long!
Sad news today. A former woman minister from my church died today of a super virus- a cold that turned into pneumonia. She was only 48 years old. And my doctor told me I couldn’t be vacinated right now because I’m under 65 ad in good health. so was she.
Shika, My mom was a Lt in the Army Nurse Corps in WWII. She served At Walter Reed Army Hospital in DC and rode the hospital trains across country. She also served at the Pananma Canal. When she left the Army she was an RN for 40 more years. According to the doctors and nurses who worked with her, ONE OF THE BEST!
HolySmoke - We are all cartoon enthusiasts that have connected and chosen to converse about cartoons and have over time established a friendship through common interests, that often goes beyond the cartoon itself. Big Top is a strip that is no longer in a current creative state (reruns) we all enjoy the cartoon and continue to read it and have used this as a venue to talk about other cartoons and other interests.
Here at the VA, they are saying that over 65 is not eligible for the H1N1 vaccination. Under 65 and small children or those caring for small children have priority along with people who have lung type viruses.
Howdy Terry. I can not tell you how I dislike the fact that I finish dinner at 7 PM, wash the dishes, look at the clock thinking that it must be 9PM, because it is so dark and it is like 7:15. To much of the day is spent in darkness at this time of year.
Cleo-From what Wolfangil was told at the hospital where she works, people over 65 were introduced to the “Swine Flu” in the 70’s & early 80’s. Thus their system has devloped somewhat of an immunity to this newer version of it. They are not as much at risk. But if in their old age they have a breathing problem type virus, they are eligible.
hi all. DRY i love you girl and i agree with Carmy your parents raised one heck of a lady. (((((((((HUG))))))))
shika you here? im only here for a few more mins. come 10 i wanna be in bed. i am almost finished the last bit of my hw. i have to find one more word in a book that i dont know look it up put it on a card find sny and ant of it verbs nouns adj adv and right it all down def and how its said put my name on the card the page i found it on in the dic. and the book page. fun fun fun
shika im glad i caught you also. night sis. i wont be long either.
Terry i can’t say without breaking the rules wink wink why i am doing better today and will be doing even better tomorrow. but i can tell you this… It can only get better. i was told a story today i shall share with you all that has made me relize i dont have it so bad and i can get through this. you cant keep me down…
let me see how to spell the words then i shall tell the story.
Two young boys one a Pessimist and the other an opimistic were taken to a place the Pessimist was placed in a room full of toys from wall to wall and left in the room for 30 mins. the people came back to find him crying. they said to him “what posibley could be the problem you have every toy imaganible” the little boy replied “there are so many i dont know which one to play with first.” so they move on to the Opimistic boy. they placed him in a room full of manure, from wall to wall knee deep. they leave him there for 30 mins and come back and find him tossing manure around in the air laughing and jumping and singing…. they look at him and say “what in the world could you possibley be SO happy about your in a room of manure?” the boy then replies “with all this manure there has got to be a pony in here somewheres”
so the moral of the story is look for the pony in life. :D
Carmy, Tabby and Shika I WISH I could be like my mom! Believe me, I try to be like her, but I’ll never be. I don’t have as much kindness and courage as she did. I try, but … But thanks so much for saying it!
Cleo, not a wonderful night, but it’s okay.
Tabby, great story, girl! I don’t I have the strength to carry you, sorry. I would if I could though.
Dry, I know you are very kind. Courage, hey we don’t call you FHIG for nothing.
Terry, I hope you don’t get any side effects from your shots.
Carmy i just looked at the time its 10:26 ahhhhh im not gonna want to get up in the morning. i must go. i dont have the strength to carry Ana to bed anymore shes heavy and im getting week. sigh. i shall try to make it back in the am b4 i head out.
Carmy-I am more worried about the other side effects than those from the vaccines. They have raised one of the meds and lowered the other. It’s getting hard for me to keep up with it all!
Terry* - I probably mentioned this, but I bought a 1.75 liter bottle of silver Patron because I was saving $10 a liter by buying it in that size as opposed to a fifth. Now here is the rough part. Our liquor stores are state owned and pumped full of taxes. That bottle cost me $109, can you believe it?
cleo, is it cheaper to buy bottles in Canada? We used to buy bottles in Mexico for a good price. You get taxed on your entry to the States IF they see your bottles.
Dry - I just suddenly had a twisted desire to have my feathers ruffled and by golly I really couldn’t think of anyone that I would rather have ruffle them than you. Let me ask you, are you available between 8 AM &11: 30 AM?
Somebody other than me better get breakfast at turnover. I don’t mind cooking breakfast, but Wolfangil is expecting dinner too now. It ain’t happening!!!

Many thanks to all the medical personel for all they have done also. (My late brother was a medic during Vietnam).
Happy Birthday to Marg’s daughter!

COWBOY7 over 14 years ago
(((((((Carmy))))))), well put dear.
And may I send the sentiment right back at you and your hubby! Thank you both very much!
cleokaya over 14 years ago
Terry - What a nice gesture on your part and the patient’s as well. I know that you do not do it for kudos, but it still warms a person’s heart to know that what they have done is appreciated.
COWBOY7 over 14 years ago
Cleo, you’re right! All the way home, I was wondering if there was something more I could have done that I didn’t. I feel I owe so much to those individuals for giving me the freedom to decide!

COWBOY7 over 14 years ago
Now I need to check out Bewley? Is that on gocomics?
carmy over 14 years ago
COWBOY7 over 14 years ago

carmy over 14 years ago
Terry, yes Bewley is on gocomics. It should be up in your “Comics A to Z Navigation” on the top right side of this page.
cleokaya over 14 years ago
Carmy - That is so hard. When a person loses someone without warning or preperation, it makes the loss so immediate and all consuming.
cleokaya over 14 years ago
Terry - Yes Bewley is on gocomics.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 14 years ago
Carmy I think I know how you feel. Maybe. back in the blizzard of ‘93 our neighbor down the hill right below us, was out shoveling his driveway, we saw him go in the house and then we saw the ambulance trying to come up the road. They had a terrrible time getting up our road. We saw in the paper the next day that he had died. I had just talked to him 2 days before that.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 14 years ago
Terry Bewley is on here.
carmy over 14 years ago
The lady across the street wasn’t home when her boyfriend died. Her parents were home, they called 911. When the lady got home, they were still trying to revive him. I hugged her and asked if I could do anything for her, she said no.
carmy over 14 years ago
Dry, I heard that snow shoveling is a major cause of heart attacks. I thought my Dad had died from pancreas cancer, but it was actually a heart attack that killed him. I’m sorry I’m being a downer. Time to change the subject. Doesn’t today feel like a Sunday?

cleokaya over 14 years ago
Yes Terry, I added it as well. I actually removed about 4 or 5 comics today, such as Academia Waltz. I have read them all and there is no reason to reread them. I liked them a lot, but life is about other things as well. * Doc* and I used to be about the only 2 consistent postings on AW. I do not know if he still reads it, but I don’t.

Sad news today. A former woman minister from my church died today of a super virus- a cold that turned into pneumonia. She was only 48 years old. And my doctor told me I couldn’t be vacinated right now because I’m under 65 ad in good health. so was she.

COWBOY7 over 14 years ago
Hello there Cleo!
cleokaya over 14 years ago
*Terry - Why would over 65 not be eligible. I would think that children and the elderly would have priority.
COWBOY7 over 14 years ago
I feel like a pin cushoin this week. The H1N1, Flu shot & the pneumonia vaccine!
carmy over 14 years ago
Terry, no shots for the over 65 bunch sounds like, “you’re gonna croak soon so we can’t waste the precious on you!” That’s mean.
cleokaya over 14 years ago
Howdy Terry. I can not tell you how I dislike the fact that I finish dinner at 7 PM, wash the dishes, look at the clock thinking that it must be 9PM, because it is so dark and it is like 7:15. To much of the day is spent in darkness at this time of year.
carmy over 14 years ago
I didn’t know there was a pneumonia vaccine.
COWBOY7 over 14 years ago
Cleo-From what Wolfangil was told at the hospital where she works, people over 65 were introduced to the “Swine Flu” in the 70’s & early 80’s. Thus their system has devloped somewhat of an immunity to this newer version of it. They are not as much at risk. But if in their old age they have a breathing problem type virus, they are eligible.
carmy over 14 years ago
(((((((Dry))))))), your Mom was an incredible woman. She raised one too!!!
carmy over 14 years ago

COWBOY7 over 14 years ago

Good Night MoPar! Good Night Tabby!
cleokaya over 14 years ago
Terry - LOL , that was not supposed to scare you away from Patron, it was just a moment provoked by the memory of my last Patron purchase.
carmy over 14 years ago
cleo, is it cheaper to buy bottles in Canada? We used to buy bottles in Mexico for a good price. You get taxed on your entry to the States IF they see your bottles.
cleokaya over 14 years ago
Having said that, Patron is still cheaper than Booker’s.
COWBOY7 over 14 years ago
Cleo
For as much as I drink, it would take more than that to scare me from Patron. I have an acquired taste for tequilla and especially patron.
cleokaya over 14 years ago
Carmy - In most places in Canada it is even more expensive.
Terry - I agree. I have a number of friends that prefer other tequilas, Patron Silver is my choice and I do prefer it to gold or any other Patron.
carmy over 14 years ago
Cleo, sorry I thought it would be less expensive there. What is that Mexican stuff that has a worm in it, Mescal?
