Mom won’t buy him the cereal with marshmallow bits and I’m surprised she even buys this one. Calvin’s a hand full as it is. He doesn’t need a sugar high.
When I was a kid, sugary cereals were the norm. In fact, my Mom even let us put sugar on our plain cheerios because they didn’t taste “good” otherwise. Oh, man, no wonder I was such a hyper child.
I remember a joke commercial a local radio station once did for “Sugar Shockers Cereal”- Slices of raw sugar cane, dipped in honey and rolled in icing sugar. The response from their kid “interview” was “They mmakkke mmee vvviibbrate!”. But mothers were assured that every box of Sugar Shockers came with a trial package of Flintstone’s Chewable Valium…
I raised a kid like Calvin. We wouldn’t feed him loaded sugar products at home, he got those at his friends house. The school advised Ritlin but we refused the drug and worked on his attitude instead. Turned out great.
okay i must admit that is good. i love sugar. but i dont go that far. when you get the frosted flakes that aren’t frosted there just flakes, its great to add sugar. i used to add sugar to the frosted ones also.lol i was never really hyper… wonder why.
bmonk yes that is my dog. His name is Beau. He is about 3 years old but still as playful as the first day we got him. he loves to run and jump and play fetch. he thinks he’s a lap dog. likes to sleep in my bed when the wether is bad. very protective. loveable. crazy. he was hit by a big dully truck about a year ago. messed up his eye a litte so his sight is a little bad in one eye. but you cant tell. he runs into things when he is excited. oh and he loves to chace the flashlight around the house. lol
that was probley more the you bargend for. lol sorry.
@tabbylynn, no, that was good. My brother has three rescued dogs. Their alpha female a few years back was getting old, at least ten, and starting to lose her sense of balance, so she leaned – but was still in charge. When she couldn’t walk very well anymore, they had to use a kid’s wagon to haul her around, and that made the others want one too! I think they finally had to let her go: would you like to continue to live with permanent nausea and dizziness? So sad, but they had to.
bmonk that is sad. poor think. we had a dog when i was about 2 that jumped out of the back of a moving truck and was draged through gravel she had all her legs broken and her stomach riped open. my dad took her and would cary her all over. helped her eat, drink, and potty. she made it and she was his baby. she would not let anyone look at him funny even.
I never could stand those over sweetened cereals. I remember when I picked up a box of frosted Cheerios by mistake. I had to wash them off in water before I could eat them!
In college, we had those plastic cereal dispensers. I got in the habit of eating my cereal out of a milk glass (to better enjoy the flavored precipitates etc.) At dinner (they left them out all day) I’d replace the milk with soft serve ice-cream. Yeah…I was kinda crazy and wild in college.
Hmmm… ice cream float / blizzard? fat, sugar, caffeine… three of the four food groups! (Fourth is alcohol.)
And I’m one of those crazy individuals who would buy a box of Lucky Charms marshmallows!
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was the best! The milk had a nice honey taste.

Aw, com’on Mom, what’s a little more sugar?
attyush about 15 years ago
Any cereal that changes the color of the milk does it for me.
margueritem about 15 years ago
Trix used to be good for flavoring milk. It was fun to try to get ‘em to sink.

It’s not healthy to eat so much sugar! No sugar bombs!
ana_demeter about 15 years ago
What genius decided that sugar could be designated as a food group in its own right at breakfast?
tbree about 15 years ago
This would explain how Calvin ‘explodes’ into creating such disasters.

Um, Calvin, ever hear of diabetes??Keep that up and you’ll be a prime candidate.
wicky about 15 years ago
Sugar Bombs!!! this should enable Calvin to move three parsecs in four seconds.
Northwoodser about 15 years ago
That ought to keep him at top speed for a few hours.

They say the dyes, especially Yellow#5,are more the “culprit” than the sugar when it comes to turning our kids into “TAZ”!

Way too much sugar!
COWBOY7 about 15 years ago
I agree, the ones that change the milk color are the best. Especially chocolate ones!!!!!

Hobbes’ face in panel 3 is wonderful. He seems thinking: “I rather prefer a tuna sandwhich.”

This is what being a kid is all about. Sugary breakfast foods on a Saturday morning, FTW.
Wildmustang1262 about 15 years ago
Calvin eats same kind of cereal in the bowl three times that makes him more energy. He could be triple extra-hyper!

Would a meeting between Calvin and Danae from Non Sequitur over a box of this stuff detonate the entire comic universe? Enquiring minds want to know.
cello_wizard about 15 years ago
Hmm… i wonder why his mother doesn’t want him eating Chocolate Frosted Crunchy Sugar Bombs gasp for air WITH Marshmellows???
lazygrazer about 15 years ago
I seem to recall Calvin also uses chocolate milk in his cereal.
Glad mom put her foot down on the marshmallows.

All that sugar… Let the hyper-active ego run wild (you go Calvin)
