Well, Grog, I usually outlast you, but I have our daughter’s graduation today and I have an appointment before that. So I need to hit the horizontal position, my friend.
Good Morning, Lewreader. Help yourself to breakfast. If you don’t see anything you like you’re welcome to rummage through my kitchen for something you do like.
That goes for you,too, EMET
GROG. SHE is going shopping today and has the peculiar notion that I am to join her. Give me 14 hard boiled eggs, pan fries with plenty of onion, and a dozen Pepsis, please. Oh, an a NUC COFFEE if LUVH8 hasn’t drunk it all with her new mug, complete with sippy top.
DOC TOON. I’m jealous except for I make an eighty cup pot for my Sunday AA meeting. It has a ground holder big enough for two pounds of coffee and no automatic shutoff so it can be prepared four days in advance. The all metal construction is easily cleaned with a hammer and chisel and the red light blinks before core meltdown.
Good Morning Lew! I hope your wife makes you go shopping with her and while you all are out shopping, after having that huge breakfast, there will be no bathroom in sight for you to use. Feel better now? ;-)
Good Morning All. Another sunny day in the PNW. Life is good. Doc do you fill the big cofffee pot up and gradually empty over the course of a week? LOL
cleo, I’ve got my usually Saturday errands when I finally get my butt in gear. Also want to do some outdoor work if the weather holds. There’s a 20% chance of showers this morning. If not, there’s plenty to do indoors, I guess.
I’ve got Judgement At Nuremberg on tap for toight. I’m looking forward to that (& Kelly’s Heroes & Key Largo tomorrow & Monday).
Morning, EMET
Beans for breakfast compliment scrambled eggs nicely as part of the French Canadian breakfast. They’re a good source of fibre and are a good alternative to fruit for me.
I haven’t been around for a couple of days so I just thought I’d stop in for a minute. When I don’t have time to read all the comments, I just skim through to make sure I didn’t miss anything llike someone’s birthday, anniversary, or something along thoses lines.
Grog, you’re welcome. Please don’t think I watch that boring golf stuff. My Mom and brother do. They play it also, or at least my Mom used to. My Dad used to play also. They all tried to get me to, but I always hit the swimming pool instead.
Dry, I suppose some people might find Golf fun, it’s just too slow for me.
Have fun, Grog!EMET, my user name is self splainin’. It’s a variation of my given name.
EMET, my username comes from the names of two dogs I had, a Lab named Cleo and a Terrier that resembled a coyote, that I named Kaya, but I also called her Ote (Oaty).
My screen name derives from the old MSN 95 days, when it was difficult to find a name that hadn’t already been taken or was comprised of mostly hard-to-remember numerals. Wifey Bits and I were in the process of updating our landscape with native perennials, and I had a tray of black-foot daisies, genus “hymenoxis”, and it stuck. Easy to remember, not likely to be used by others.
@DocT, last time I went hunting to buy a 40-cup coffeepot, I had to look in several stores. Most seemed to have just the little ones, for 1-12 or maybe up to 20 cups. Then one story had them, but only one (and we wanted 2). Finally found a store with two–larger at 48 cups, IIRC, and cheaper.
I use bmonk because b is my initial, and, well, I’m a monk.
Back in college, I was drifting towards the life, so I often used monk as a sign-in for the computer center. When you didn’t have PCs, but had to read your punch-card packs into the mainframe, and then wait for the line-printers to do the printout…
Well, first weekend without Stormy. I miss her. (For those who don’t know, my kitty cat, Stormy, went to the Rainbow Bridge on Monday to join the other kitties waiting for me).
I must be a dang cat magnet. But it’s also spring and the time of year where those in our industry (or any industry) find out their lovely little girl kitty did indeed sneak away for too long that night 2 months ago. I will take a kitten to save it from the streets, but I am going to be picky. It must be a ginger female. Solid or stripes is ok, but female. The boys are just too independent, even when they do get neutered.
Anyway, to the chase, if my contact’s contact in the Trucking industry has a ginger female I will give her a home. If not, I will continue on, knowing that kitty’s somewhere waiting for me to find her.
Workwise things are going well. I’m achieving on the Personal Impovement Plan (PIP) and should be off probation about this time next month. The way we’re working now is so much better, a phone team and an on-line team, no bookings via phone and the email booking request box is MINE. I don’t need to worry about someone working on the same thing I am, etc, etc.
I’m taking Monday and Tuesday off, comp time. Oh, and my son already got a promotion at his new job. Whoo Hoo!!
EMET my SN is a tribute to my dog at the time. I called her “Saucy” because she was white beneath and black on top, like vanilla ice cream with hot fudge sauce. The numbers are my birthday. I use this SN on various sites including comics.com and pogo.com.
There’s Saucy on the left. She was 12 at the time of the photo in 2006. She stepped on her rainbow in August of 2007, but will live forever in screen names.
Saucy, Saucy looks lovely even in the small, low rez picture.
I couldn’t saddle any animal with my screen name here, it’s a shortening of the name of the ‘bad guy’ in my stories. Believe me, no one wants to call Quaby to come home……
EMET, I think you (and most everyone else under the Big Top) already know what my handle and avatar are all about. But for those who don’t already know, I go by the name of Grog from the B.C. comic strip
————————–
EMET - Rmom, is just shortened from my original RRAmom. The “RRA” part is the initials of our homeschool’s legal name (required to register as a private school in KS). The “mom” part - well, I have two sons, so I’m a mom. I’ve been a homeschool mom for 16 years (although since we decided to go this route when the oldest was a baby, I’ve identified with homeschool moms for longer.) This is my final year of homeschooling, but I think I’ll stick with the handle. It doesn’t seem to get duplicated by others.
Naw, we were just burning a pile of brush & trash. We managed to do it right for a change - maybe because my husband actually listened to me and took my advice. Usually, he just gets “a wild hair” to burn the brush pile, and then I’m having to play fireman. This time, we took the proper precautions, and he started the fire (with his flame thrower) where I wanted, instead of where he was planning.
That pile of brush & trash have been there for several years, and with the thought of getting this place sold, I knew we’d better clean it up. Later, he’ll use the front loader to push the logs together that didn’t burn up entirely. Might make a nice place to have a weiner roast later this summer.
I don’t think I’ve ever used a fire extinguisher. Thankfully, we have a good well, and have several lengths of hoses. Since we can, and do, burn our trash, it comes in handy to keep from burning more than we want.
One year when I decided it was too windy to burn trash, my hubby decided (without telling me) that he was going to burn the weeds around our sewage lagoon. Our oldest son & I had to grab the hoses, and work to get the fire under control, before it burnt the neighbor’s yard. Thankfully, that neighbor mostly had nice green grass, so we burnt very little of his property. But I was sweating it that day, because the neighbor’s house is fairly close to the property line on our side.
Oh, and whoever didn’t have a hose, had to go around stomping on the flames with their shoes to smother them. Works okay if you have thick leather soles, not so well with flip flops.
Just one joke, then I need to go.
~In Honor of Moms~
One evening after dinner, my five-year-old son Brian noticed that his mother had gone out. In answer to his questions, I told him, “Mommy is at a Tupperware party.”
This explanation satisfied him for only a moment. Puzzled, he asked, “What’s a Tupperware party, Dad?”
I’ve always given my son honest answers, so I figured a simple explanation would be the best approach. “Well, Brian,” I said, “at a Tupperware party, a bunch of ladies sit around and sell plastic bowls to each other.”
Brian nodded, indicating that he understood this curious pastime. Then he burst into laughter. “Come on, Dad,” he said. “What is it really?”
Grog - I was wondering if they were on DVD. Guess now I know what to go looking for when I’ve got some spare money. I didn’t care too much for the later seasons, they weren’t as G-rated.
Rmom, I didn’t enjoy the show as much after the first 5 years. When any show runs longer than 5 years, it seems difficult to keep it new & fresh. I just think I liked it better when the boys were younger & more innocent, Al was with Eileen and Karen was around for the trading of insults with Tim.
Sounds like you’re having a rather quiet day, EMET. I wouldn’t have paid what you paid for the fruit/vegetable salad, either. But then I don’t like fruit salad anyway.
I have no problem travelling alone. At least you get to see what you want to see, when you want to see it. I’ve travelled a lot on my own on business and I like it. When I travel with my boss I have to follow his time table and his preferences. It’s a total loss of freedom.
Fire extinguishers? When I was stationed in Africa, fire extinguishers were used to cool beer in our shower stalls. We got caught and learned:
You shouldn’t steal
If you must, steal from a civilian
If you must steal from the military, steal from the Navy
If you must steal from the Marines, steal from a different unit
Had a lovely scrabble game at the Green Dragon. But no one else was there and when we were done she had to go back to work. So I’m home, Hopefully to do my laundry, Doc. But I don’t go back to work until Wednesday so I may put it off until tomorrow afternoon, when things are slower.
~Another joke in honor of Moms~
My parents and another couple visited me in Boston, where I was attending college. After a day of shopping, the two women were eager to return to their hotel via the subway. I was going back to my dorm, which was one stop before theirs, so I rode with them. Unfortunately, it was rush hour and we became separated in the crowded car. Every time the train stopped, Mom called out, “Brenda, are you still here?”
I finally yelled to her that I would let her know when I was getting off. When my stop came, I shouted, “Mom, I’m getting off now.”
To my embarrassment, everyone on the subway car yelled back, “Bye, Brenda!”
Just got through watching the new episode of Dr Who. Whoa, I had wondered what new thing they could do with the Weeping Angels, and they done did it. I can’t ‘wait for next week when we get to see parts 1 and 2 back to back.
My son’s home tonight, and will be home tomorrow, he got promoted and is back to an 8-5 gig for 2 weeks while he gets more training. I think he’s good at customer service, and he gets it from me (swagger, pats back).
At the dragon one of the girls learned I was once again catless and was tossing out all kinds of ‘he needs a home’. Man, I was so tired of finding polite ways of saying ‘no. She’s sweet, but I wouldn’t trust her judgment of temperament. I guess I’d better find one soon and end the bombardment. But I’m still gonna be picky.
Hmmm, your sorrow drowning items sound great, Grog but I’d better stick with the floats. Please sir, May I have some more?
I and my fellow Cowboy fans down at the plant are already looking forward to Football season. Hockey’s not the talk of this town…and I rarely hear talk of the Astros.
Well, I’m pooping out here. Have church tomorrow, singing an anthem. Other than that a quiet Sunday. Nice for a change. So I’ll see you sometime tomorrow. Until then, Party On!!!
The graduation was awesome of course. After that we did a little get together at a restaurant. A party for our daughter and for James graduating 8th grade is coming the summer.
Well, in s much as I’d like to, I don’t think I’m going to make it through the turnover, tonight. I didn’t get much sleep last night and didn’t have much of a power snooze today.
Pittsburgh and Montreal has been a good series. I’m sorry that I missed the game tonight, but I do have a chance to possibly catch the replay later tonight on the NHL Network.

We did a little training (required) on fire extinguisher use at the plant recently. It was the first time I’ve ever actually used a fire extinguisher.
Smiley Rmom over 14 years ago
GROG Premium Member over 14 years ago
That kind of playing is alright if you do it right. You don’t want to burn your house or someone else’s. Glad you took all the precautions.
Smiley Rmom over 14 years ago
I don’t think I’ve ever used a fire extinguisher. Thankfully, we have a good well, and have several lengths of hoses. Since we can, and do, burn our trash, it comes in handy to keep from burning more than we want.
Smiley Rmom over 14 years ago
One year when I decided it was too windy to burn trash, my hubby decided (without telling me) that he was going to burn the weeds around our sewage lagoon. Our oldest son & I had to grab the hoses, and work to get the fire under control, before it burnt the neighbor’s yard. Thankfully, that neighbor mostly had nice green grass, so we burnt very little of his property. But I was sweating it that day, because the neighbor’s house is fairly close to the property line on our side.
Smiley Rmom over 14 years ago
Oh, and whoever didn’t have a hose, had to go around stomping on the flames with their shoes to smother them. Works okay if you have thick leather soles, not so well with flip flops.

Rmom, your husband is sounding a lot like Tim “The Tool Man” Taylor
Smiley Rmom over 14 years ago
Grog - He does seem to resemble Tim! That show was one of our favorites. We’ve got several episodes on tape, so even our boys have enjoyed it.
Smiley Rmom over 14 years ago
Just one joke, then I need to go. ~In Honor of Moms~ One evening after dinner, my five-year-old son Brian noticed that his mother had gone out. In answer to his questions, I told him, “Mommy is at a Tupperware party.” This explanation satisfied him for only a moment. Puzzled, he asked, “What’s a Tupperware party, Dad?” I’ve always given my son honest answers, so I figured a simple explanation would be the best approach. “Well, Brian,” I said, “at a Tupperware party, a bunch of ladies sit around and sell plastic bowls to each other.” Brian nodded, indicating that he understood this curious pastime. Then he burst into laughter. “Come on, Dad,” he said. “What is it really?”

Rmom. I have the first 5 seasons on DVD. It was probably my favorite show running at the time.
Smiley Rmom over 14 years ago
Grog - I was wondering if they were on DVD. Guess now I know what to go looking for when I’ve got some spare money. I didn’t care too much for the later seasons, they weren’t as G-rated.
GROG Premium Member over 14 years ago

We got caught and learned: You shouldn’t steal If you must, steal from a civilian If you must steal from the military, steal from the Navy If you must steal from the Marines, steal from a different unit
Good thing the Navy barracks didn’t burn

Grog!!! Am I too late for the ice cream floats???
Had a lovely scrabble game at the Green Dragon. But no one else was there and when we were done she had to go back to work. So I’m home, Hopefully to do my laundry, Doc. But I don’t go back to work until Wednesday so I may put it off until tomorrow afternoon, when things are slower.

~Another joke in honor of Moms~ My parents and another couple visited me in Boston, where I was attending college. After a day of shopping, the two women were eager to return to their hotel via the subway. I was going back to my dorm, which was one stop before theirs, so I rode with them. Unfortunately, it was rush hour and we became separated in the crowded car. Every time the train stopped, Mom called out, “Brenda, are you still here?” I finally yelled to her that I would let her know when I was getting off. When my stop came, I shouted, “Mom, I’m getting off now.” To my embarrassment, everyone on the subway car yelled back, “Bye, Brenda!”

Quaby, it’s never too late.
I, on the other hand, am ready to drown my sorrow. I have: Labbatt Blue Bud Fosters (Killer cans) Heineken (Killer cans) and Michelob (Original Stock)
Quabaculta over 14 years ago
Thanks Grog.
