Why is it that the first thing that sprang into my mind upon hearing “Barbie” was the final line from the movie?

Not as rare as “Growing Up Skipper”.

How many were in a regular edition? 2000 sounds like a decent inventory to me. But I’ve never played with a Barbie so what would I know about it?

Now, close to 25 years later, that would have been a great investment.

There were more than 2,000 Barbie collectors around when this was made. This is a no-brainer. (And a lot of people who will buy multiple copies as an investment who’ll leave them in the box and wait for the price to go up. When the movie comes out in 2023 value will skyrocket.)

    Ok… stupid story time

[Los Osos – Baywood Park circa 1978]

A young girl has amassed ALL of her Barbie toys.. and a young boy has amassed ALL of his GI Joe toys… they dig an impressive moat in the sand around the GI Joe Command tower, which in-turn is surrounded by every GI Joe action set & Barbie toy set ever released…

After filling the moat with water, they take out several cans of WD-40 and lighters……..Those items would be worth hundreds of thousands now (well, maybe not the GI Joes Penny felt she needed to shave)

From memory, her vital statistics on the standard model were (grossed up) 52-16-44.

There was, in the late 90s, some kind of “New” Barbie with more realistic features. It got a lot of publicity, but sales were not good. There was even a SIMPSONS episode about it. 2,000 sounds about right.

I don’t quite believe there was ever a Barbie Doll with hips.

Swooping in on Mattel inventory? That sounds suspect, young Alex. Those dolls are knock-offs.

If I were Alex, I’d pass on all those “Goldwater For President” buttons in the old warehouse….

Barbies with hips were in style briefly, before weight loss drugs took over Hollywood

I’m with Firebat. Never played with a Barbie, never was remotely interested in dolls. Always thought they were nonsense. Loved to draw and create.
