Back in the day, in NY public schools, we were excused every Thursday afternoon to go to church school every week real school was in session.
Since my father was Jewish and my mother Roman Catholic (think I know something about guilt?) I told the Jews my parents wanted me to go to Catholic school, and the Catholics my parents wanted me to go to Jewish school – and I went to movie matinees for y e a r s.
I know – to some folks – religion is important, and it gives them whatever it is they need to get by – and that’s fine – for them.
I’d really recommend you catch yesterday’s DMZ to catch Stanti’s comment on the actions of Right-Wing Populism if the Supreme Court upholds trumpster fire’s omission from Colorado and Maine’s ballots, start at about 30 minutes………………………………….Ted, do you think the right-wing populists would be justified to kill people if they don’t get their way? You didn’t really address that matzo ball Stanti rolled out there.
Ted later performed his usual pretense of an objective view of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. He, against notes how much larger Russia is than Ukraine as a sign of the fait accompli of Russia’s victory. Funny how he never ponders how much larger Russia was over Afghanistan. Ted, I’m sure you’ve been told many times that size doesn’t matter. Ted then rolls out his old trope that Russia is just protecting its interest and doesn’t have an further ambitions. Except that Putin has make threatening comments in the direction of other former Soviet nations. Ted, did you ever consider that supporting Ukraine and wearing down the Russians there is a strategic move to protect Poland, Latvia, Estonia, etc?:
It’s true that many have fallen away from church attendance. But, some churches have added some type of online viewing. The church I go to has a great service that is broadcast on Facebook, or Meta, and the church’s website. And I usually put together a Facebook Live service at 4PM Sunday called Abundant Life. You’ll find a number of Abundant Life programs out there, and I’m one of them. So, church attendance may be waning, but church interest may be on a comeback.
I gave up on religion at age 8 when my church took all the 12-13 year old kids aside at Sunday School for a couple hours, and on the bus ride home they couldn’t stop talking about how doctors would put a big knife inside a woman’s belly and cut babies up into little parts and pull the parts out one by one, or they’d pull babies out of women’s bellies and put them in acid to kill them, and how important it was to stop this
I’m ok without finding other people who also gave up on religion, tho. I’d rather go see some live music instead of forming a non-god fan club
In my experience, the harder that people try to inflict their religion upon others – the less they actually follow that religion’s teachings. Most of them seem to think that it is okay for them to sin all week, as long as they make an appearance in their church once in a while (to get forgiven).
We all know a particular troll on here (who uses multiple accounts) who is the poster child for all of this…
Being a Reformed Druid and recovering Catholic, I’m always fascinated by all those who KNOW with such certainty. NO ONE KNOWS. It’ll be fine either way.
Reminds me of a short story I read when I was a kid, spirituality without the context of community is just mastuhbation……………………………….Whelp, as I pretty much foresaw, Stanti and Ted Rall ginned up a special DMZ to address the left-handed exoneration of President Biden for the mishandling of secure documents. Both have serious concerns about Biden’s age. It’s a fair point. Both predict if he continues to run for a second term, he will be destroyed by Trump. That’s where I git off the bus. I’m going to predict he runs again and beats the orange idiot. I would not be surprised if he resigns next mid-term. It’s important to note, and Stanti and Rall are disingenuous in their omissions of this matter, that Biden’s staff is rock solid, and I would argue that for most executive business the staff is more important.

The problem is not that Christianity is not being taught in schools.

I think the movie “The Invention of Lying” was a bit more spot on.
