What’s more important is that tomatoes make ketchup. Or catsup depending on who you ask.

IIRC there was an old court case relating to imports that declared that whether a food is a fruit or a vegetable was determined by how it is used. Use a tomato as a vegetable and it’s a vegetable, although I don’t know what using it as a fruit even means.

Knowlege is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is knowing not to use a tomato in a fruit salad. Philosophy means contemplating if ketchup is a smoothie.

    I just learned a cucumber is a fruit – and it’s 98% water, and 4% carbohydrates.

How did I not know this?

More importantly, why do I care?

Tomatoes were once considered to be poisonous, at least in Europe. One reason was because it belongs to the nightshade family. Another was that some people had died after eating tomatoes, but it was because they ate them off of pewter plates, and the acid from the tomato leached some lead off the plate and gave them lead poisoning.

Neither! Tomatoes are technically berries because they are fleshy fruits without pits that develop from a single flower.

Garfield, you should be grateful that tomatoes are the main source of catsup, hot sauce, and especially tomato paste, which is used in pizza, lasagna, and any other pasta dish.
