Now before there was Garfield, there was Willy ‘n’ Ethel; and Willy has about the same ambition as Garfield; and he has a cat.

Is Odie a beagle? He seems kind of nondescript to me — apart from his bizarre colour!

Survey time! What breed or breed mix is Odie?

I know for a fact he’s part Beagle. A past strip (July 31st, 1991) confirmed this (not to mention his hips have a similar “dot” to the “dot” on Snoopy the Peanuts beagle’s back). Also, I suspect a little Greyhound or Whippet based on his body shape, and maybe some Basset Hound or Bloodhound based on his ears and nose. Therefore, my answer is “BeagWhipBassHound.”

But what do you all think?

I had a pet beagle when i was a boy. she was a great friend but my god she would gnaw on anything she could get her teeth into. The coffee table I have in my family room to this day still shows her teeth marks on it decades later, and still remind me on her.
