It is impossible not merely because too many American voters vote their hatreds in congressional elections, but also because “What is in America’s interest?” is precisely a political question.

Too many reward those who block the best interests of Americans with their vote, out of spite and narrow self-interest. Others support them with their money, energy and talent.

The democratic party still has some people like that. The Republican party once did too but has now become a cult following a megalomaniac.

That is not true. There are many good, honest, and honorable people in Congress. Some are horrible. Who put them there?

Many forms of Government have been tried, and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. —Winston Churchill

Reasonable art except for the proportions :) If the republicans can admit that Trump is a crook and move on, it’s a real possibility they could work together provided they get the tea party, sorry, freedum caucus, under control.

Not impossible. It just takes voters to remove the Republican minded who have nothing to offer the American people but attacks and distractions.

another faux both sides argument. Plenty of folks on the left willing to work across the aisles. Its the lunatics on the Right who are quick to cast out anyone of their own who doesn’t bow down to Don the Con and do his bidding. And we all know his bidding will not allow any of them to work across the aisles

Bipartisanship USED to happen when men were human beings with intelligence, class, and scruples!

Now, it’s the most embarrassing circus I’ve ever seen…people are electing disruptive, evil, loons nuts and wack jobs to run our country! No wonder NOTHING GETS DONE in UNITY!

GOP have lost their minds! They should be ashamed of themselves for supporting an evil devious fascist criminal that means harm to our DEMOCRACY!

What the hell is wrong with you people?

There’s actually a certain freedom granted to the Democrats by the Republican attitude. When you know that no matter how much you try to compromise, include input from the other party, listen to and respect their opinions=== NO MATTER WHAT, they are going to do everything they can possibly do to keep you from doing anything that can be viewed by voters as a success, simply because they would be perfectly willing to burn the country down as long as they can rule over the ashes. It is liberating, because there is no need to even consider compromise, Democrats can go as far left as they want to, and get the same response from Republicans as if they tired to include them. And, it’s much faster and easier to just do it and let the voters appreciate it, and watch the Republicans campaign by claiming credit for bills that they worked to defeat.

Folks, there’s no point in criticizing our Rep’s and Sen’s in Congress. They reflect us and our votes in their last election. If we don’t like what they’re doing we can replace them in their next election. Remember, the finger you point at them has 4 fingers pointing back at ourselves. We have no one to blame but us, ‘The People’.

That pretty much leaves out the entire Republican Party. Far more hope to be found, in the Democratic Party.

I seldom agree w/ Ramirez… but in this case he’s got the truth by the throat, seems to me. As long as you can become a legiscritter with someone else’s money, you can go from nearly no wealth to multi-millions in a few short years once you’re ‘hooked into the system’. Not to mention power. I don’t really see a way back from this particular problem. Our system depends on honesty and ethics, both of which are NOT intelligence, even though there is correlation. And our system also is designed so the folks who ARE honest and ethical will not end up in the legislatures.

Isn’t it convenient that the party that hates the “Regulatory State” spends billions every election cycle convincing everyone that every politician is hopelessly corrupt.

My hope is the GQP splits into 2 or 3 parties (Extreme MAGA/fiscal conservative & social moderate/ and any other flavor will do) AND the Dems split into 2 or 3 parties (Extreme Progressive/ fiscal moderate & social liberal/ etc).

AND then we stop the gerrymandering and the policies and rules that channel the voters into a binary choice between D & R. When we the voters and NOT THE POLITICIANS are in charge again, we would solve so many problems.

Too many on both sides of the aisle think they “know” what is in “america’s” interest and are willing to exceed their constitutional powers to get it done. We fought WWII to prove that the ends do NOT justify the means, but that lesson still does not resonate. Watching “Serenity” should be part of the required curriculum to be able to take office.
