Good luck doing that with my dog. She was a hunter for 6 years and then I adopted her. Since she never learned any words, she is incapable of understanding the concept of language. Nevertheless, I took her to dog therapy classes and she aced sit, stay, down, heel, and leave it. she already had the right personality, which is the main thing. Loves everyone, gentle, quiet, calm. And a beagle. All this sounds like fiction, but she is my avatar and was providing comfort to a woman in the hospital in the picture who was unable to be with her loved ones who were being treated in 2020. I also didn’t know she should have been through puppy classes, basic obedience, advanced obedience and probably some more classes before I took her to dog therapy class. We are in our 6th year and really enjoy it. She behaves very well and has no clue what I am saying to her at any given time, so I assume she goes by tone and body language. I tried hand signals, but the usual ones are too subtle for her. I am working on some easier for her to grasp, and it has been slow. She has lived 12 years without language, and she isn’t all that interested in it now. She will sit when offered a treat. No words necessary.
Mark Twain recounting a newspaper item of a man falling from a ladder and being saved from serious injury because he fell on another man. A clear case of the second man having been “app’inted” (by God) to be there at that exact time. Some might say that God could just as well have “app’inted” a dog to be there, but sho!! that wouldn’t wash, a dog woulda run out of the way.

With dogs, it is less about commandments and more about wishful thinking.

Maybe the problem is with the wording. He should try “Thou shalt sit!”
