Ukraine has out smarted the russkis every step, so far, I have to believe they are wearing the russkis out at Bakhmut. Tying them up, while waiting for new armor et c. to arrive. Similar thing happened at Bastogne in WW2. We’ll see how the next act plays out.

Bakhmut is no longer a city but a mass of rubble having little value to Russia save that Putin needs a perceived win. Two reasons Ukraine is holding onto Bakhmut is hey, it belongs to them, and they’ve created many fortified positions and kill zones turning it into a death trap for Orcs. Look at what’s happening, Putin’s commanders are sending their mobiks into battle with nothing more than entrenching shovels and other hand tools. Russia has literally been reduced to medieval warfare without modern arms, even the venerable Moison Nagant used so effectively in WWII. It’s a slaughterhouse and UAF are the butchers. One has to feel sympathy for the mobiks, they’re given a shovel and ordered to attack. If they try to retreat they’re shot by their Wagner overlords. Their only real hope is to try and surrender for which they’ll also get shot by their own side if discovered. Reports have it that many Ukrainian troops are weary of the slaughter, but have no choice but to kill untrained old men armed with nothing more than shovels, picks and axes that the monster Putin is sending into the meat grinder. That, in and of itself, is a war crime Putin is committing on his own people. It’s a nightmare.
A lot of people scream that the US and NATO are bad for helping Ukraine. Look at it this way: our greatest rival is being bled dry and all it is costing us is money and material. No Americans divisions are in combat (Spec Ops excluded). We are spilling none of our own blood while seriously attritting the Russian military and economy. Goody.
No. Putin wants to occupy and own Ukraine, not nuke it. Would the US nuke, say, Montreal on our own borders? Makes no sense. And look at a likely fallout pattern. Putin may be semi crazy but he’s not barking mad. And nuking NATO means nobody wins as that means a general strategic nuclear exchange..
