    Sigh, yet another wasted day

with absolute nothing new to say

The strip has lost it’s way

    And that’s definitely not okay!

Maybe this is a test exercise by the syndicate … to see if anybody’s actually still reading this strip & paying attention.

Hokay, so he’s not dead because his name is not Paul Chandler. It’s Phil. Phil “I am a God cuz I’ve not only harpooned but stabbed, shot, poisoned, frozen, hung, electrocuted, and burned but still alive” Conners. And it’s not flying home day. It’s 6:00 am, and it’s…

    Good morning™, all!

I don’t know what going on with the syndicate’s feed, but I found the real strip for today:

    https://i.postimg.cc/5ttH5x2y/dt20230118.png

Flashback! Well there’s your body, complete with the harpoon sticking out of it. For those who want gore, I think that’s about the most you’re going to get.

The mystery of what Wunbrow is doing in Panama City, Florida is at least partially solved by his saying he’s there on business. What business? I think it’s none of our business what business.

Anyway, the local police need help and Tracy is just the man to do it.

Wunbrow’s voice on the phone accompanied by scenes of what already took place there is a good way to pack a lot into three frames.

See, this is one of those ’compare and find the difference ’things! In THIS one, I spotted a)The lifesize Titanic made of marmalade and bananas under the table, The Great Gazoo from The Flintstones disguised as an atomic pencil sharpener, Judge Crater, a missing goatee, a VHS tape of the missing nuclear holocaust episode of My Mother The Car, and a Partridge Family in a bare tree.

Oh, and the pen on the counter is a left-handed one.

    Whadda’ I WIN??

Considering how lame and unrealistic Paul’s death happened(way off camera, washed up on the beach, etc.) I don’t doubt whomever is in charge of actually posting the daily comic purposely posted a previous date!

I’ve heard of “long drawn out plans” but isn’t this stretching them a bit? Again no pun intended.

Or perhaps Mike and Shelley could be doing a “so nice we had to do it twice” routine. They are testing we the readers to see if we are on our toes.

    MOVIE QUOTE—

“We’ve got to find out who murdered Colonel Andrews”

“Maybe he was murdered by some of his enemies”

    “He had no enemies”

“Well, then maybe he was murdered by some of his friends”

    “He had no friends”

“Well, then he was murdered by strangers. He MUST have had strangers!”

Better believe I’ll be checking back all day to see if somebody corrects this not-so-little mistake.

As for Wunbrow, maybe one of Paul’s forgeries ended up in a Cuban museum,to somebody’s great embarrassment

Thanx to Neil Wick,I finally found the original strip after meetingSally Forth halfway through the corn maze.

The dead guy is way in the back and you can barely see the harpoon!! I…am…disappointed. As I mentioned before, some small towns aren’t used to havingmurder cases and have to call inexperienced help from larger places. Wunbrow may have promised that he’d call Dick Tracy, and Dick’s name is the magic word.

I think we’ll find out quick if Sue Reel has any smarts as Chandler’s murder should make her suspicious of Dekko.

Thanks to Neil Wick and to Tarry Plaguer for finding today’s strip; i.e. the I8 January strip rather than the repeated 16 January version! Good work!

Seems as though Paul Chandler was indeed harpooned and is dead fish dead , as reported by Detective Wunbrow to Tracy by phone and as we see in a background(er) scene. Chandler has been on Tracy’s radar for a while regarding the potential art fraud, so this turn of events should intensify scrutiny of Dekko the Gecko. Will the slimy sleazy grifter off Susie Mustache before the MCU cracks down on him, or will she live, perhaps to shave (please!) another day?

Maybe we’ll find out, if TCA can get its postings right….

The Florida police ask a visiting Cuban detective for help? I can see Wunbrow giving a courtesy call to the local police when he arrived in town. I can’t imagine any police department in the country admitting, “We’re so stupid we need some foreigner’s help.” (Unless, perhaps, the visiting foreigner was named Sherlock Holmes, or Hercule Poirot, or maybe Dick Tracy. Even the French wouldn’t ask Peter Wimsey for help – and they were allies. This seems to cement Wunbrow as a cameo.)
