So much for all the cartoons predicting the decimation of the Democratic Party by a Red Wave. It turns out voters of our Country mostly rejected the hatred and the divisiveness in favor of community, believing in compassion, not hatred and acting with reason, not reaction.

Sorry, Mr. Varvel, but no Red Tsunami. Voters in many areas didn’t buy into the MAGAt delusions and lack of Repub “solutions” for inflation, energy independence, control of crime, etc.

Trump lost 40 house seats in his first midterm.

    Obama lost 63

    Clinton lost 52

    Reagan lost 26

    Carter lost 15

Biden’s house is a dead heat.

There is inflation and gas is up, and yet that’s the result.

The Republican Party has become radical extremist, and Americans don’t like that.

The best thing for Democrats would be if Donnie-boy ran again. Republicans are SO extreme and nutty that they think he’s the guy, even though he hasn’t won the popular vote even once. If he runs again, it will be a rout.

Varvel still believes the lies! The cartoon does not predict the red ripple, but the red wave that didn’t happen.

I looked at your cartoon Garry, and all I could think about was the picture of President Truman holding the November 3, 1948 Chicago Daily Tribune with the headline, “DEWEY DEFEATS TRUMAN.”

Rookie mistake, Gary. It never pays to draw your cartoons the night before.

    Actual quote from last night:

“If the Republicans win tonight – I deserve all the credit. If they lose – I’m not to blame.” – Trump

If you actually support a guy who says something like that – what’s wrong with you?

Turns out “Joe” did what few presidents ever did by not losing a ton of midterm seats. Be interesting to see how/if the MAGA team stands with trump after this.

President Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act to bring down costs, reduce the deficit, and take aggressive action on climate – all paid for by making sure the largest corporations and billionaire tax cheats finally pay their fair share in taxes. This historic legislation lowers health care costs for millions of families and allows Medicare to negotiate drug prices for the first time. The Inflation Reduction Act caps seniors’ out-of-pocket spending for prescription drugs at $2,000 per year and ensures no senior on Medicare will pay over $35 per month for insulin. Under the law, 13 million Americans, covered under the Affordable Care Act, will see their health insurance premiums reduced by $800.The Inflation Reduction Act also takes aggressive action to combat the existential crisis of climate change. These historic clean energy investments will help families save hundreds of dollars every year on their energy bills while strengthening our energy security, creating jobs, and getting us closer to meeting our climate goals. All of this is paid for by establishing a minimum corporate tax to ensure that the wealthiest corporations finally start to pay their fair share, and cracking down on billionaire tax cheats – without increasing audit rates or raising taxes on those making under $400,000 a year by one cent. President Biden promised to make the government work for working families again and that’s exactly what this law does.

President Biden signed landmark legislation into law that will accelerate semiconductor manufacturing in the United States. The CHIPS and Science Act will help lower the cost of everyday goods, strengthen American manufacturing and innovation, create good-paying jobs, and bolster our national security. The CHIPS and Science Act will help us compete with China by bringing manufacturing jobs back to America. The law makes historic investments in research and development to accelerate the industries of the future and advance U.S. technological leadership. Thanks to President Biden’s Made In America strategy, the United States has created hundreds of thousands of new manufacturing jobs and businesses are investing in new manufacturing lines across the country. The CHIPS and Science Act makes smart investments in manufacturing and research to build on this historic progress and set America up to win the economic competition for the 21st century.

President Biden brought together Democrats and Republicans to pass the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, breaking a 30-year streak of federal inaction on gun violence legislation. The legislation took important steps, including requiring people under 21 to undergo enhanced background checks, closing the “boyfriend loophole,” and providing funding to address youth mental health.President Biden has moved decisively to combat gun violence – issuing dozens of executive orders and signing the most significant gun violence reduction legislation to pass Congress in 30 years. President Biden has launched a whole-of-government approach to make our communities safer and issued more executive orders to reduce gun violence in his first year than any other President at the same point in their administration. In July of 2022, Steve Dettelbach, President Biden’s nominee for director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, became the first Senate-confirmed director of the agency in more than 7 years.

Let’s see, Gary, it looks like the Democrats will expand their Senate Majority by a couple of seats, the GOP is still expected to have the majority (albeit a slim one) in the House (although many west coast states still haven’t declared winners). In PA, John Fetterman beat Dr. Oz for the Senate, There will be a runoff in GA in December between Rafael Warnock and Herschel Walker for the Senate, although Marjorie Taylor Greene (GA) got reelected, her partner in nuttery, Lauren Boebert (CO), was defeated, and MD elected its first ever African American governor! I saw on the news that it was the highest midterm turnout in history, with swing voters leading the way.

Someone jumped the gun on this.

There was much more of a red tide than most of us in the USA deserve, but thankfully no red wave.

Here’s to many of the mail in votes turning the tide at least a little bluer as they are counted.

This must have been drawn before last Tuesday. Right now a lot of republicans are not happy with trump. He even cost them a seat here in Washington where a Safeway republican who voted to impeach him and lost in the primary to MAGA Election denier. He’s been defeated by a Democrat so thank you trump for that by meddling in the primaries
