Awww … the real life Tommy was a sweetie—thanks for being such an inspiration to our Georgia Dunn that she shared you with us. RIP, Admiral Thomas “Tommy” Whiskerstache.
For those who, like me, didn’t get the Spring reference and don’t use F/B, Georgia explained in a recent post that the family is taking (took?) a week off to rest up from a recent bout with COVID and we’re in for a week-long highlight reel of Tommy’s exploits. Georgia’s post said they have all recovered. A Sunday Tommy highlight strip is also scheduled for late August.
Thanks for the info, CatRanger! Feel better, Georgia and family! My Mom and sisters are getting over a battle with covid, too. Enjoy your week of rest.
I’ve got the pre-newspaper syndication version of this on my refrigerator. Since 2015.
Do you remember how it was? All our lives before us, full of promise and glorious dreams. We were so young then. We walked in beauty every day and never knew it.
It is good to live on the same planet as Georgia Dunn.
Narrator: Captain Whiskerstache is waiting at home until he sees his wife and kittens. Believe these kittens are the best of all, destined for great things, great call!
Vet Nurse: Three girls and a boy, Mrs. Whiskerstache, three girls and a boy! Three girls and a boy, Mrs. Whiskerstache, three girls and a boy!
Narrator: Three daughters and a son!
At Home
Mrs. Whiskerstache: Got a feeling three and one is gonna be a great litter. Especially if you and me raise them all together!
Captain Whiskerstache: Yes, I think three and one is gonna be a great litter! They’ll go out an make their mark forever! I have no reason to b over optimistic, but when we all smile, I can brave bad weather!
Mrs. Whiskerstache: What about their names? What about their names? Time to name them all!
Captain Whiskerstache: You are Samantha, and you are Sally, you will be Lady Anne, you will all have great names. And you will be happy and bring great joy to your people everywhere! And you are Tommy, and you’ll be and Admiral. Each one of you will have so much love to share!
Tommy tributes! Tommy has a special place in our hearts as a big, lovable floofball, and though the real Tommy has crossed the rainbow bridge, he remains in the comic. Get well, Georgia. (Hope Tommy is romping with Lupin)!
Georgia…….It’s August. The temp is 104º F. The snow has melted, the pavement has melted, the grass is dying, the water level is declining and Tommy has been smoking too much catnip.
In the West, as the drought continues, more bodies are turning up in Lake Mead as the water level falls. (And you thought drought was just about crops.)
Raz disappeared at 4:00 a.m. on Saturday. She is usually the first one at the breakfast bowl and spends the morning in the back garden. After a very worrisome day of calling around the neighborhood and “spreading the word”, she showed up at the patio door at 9:00 p.m. No explanation – just a tremendous appetite. Cats!
It reminded me of the day I moved into a place four miles inland from Mendocino. The cats were spooked by the moving crew. Johnny Depp hid in an upstairs closet on top of a roll of carpet. Kirby disappeared into the woods.
After the movers left, I called for the cats. I had checked that Johnny Depp was no longer on the roll of carpet. However, after calling around I traced a faint meow back to the carpet roll; he had hidden inside.
There was no sign of Kirby for 48 hours and a thunderstorm continued throughout that interval. I called for him every two hours night and day. He finally turned up. Although he was a cat who normally meowed once a day, he meowed for ten minutes straight. It was some wild story about raccoons and bears and how they showed him a lot of stuff, then made him a Prince of the Redwoods and sent him home. I was skeptical but he was “Redwood royalty” for as long as I lived there and perfectly at home in the woods or the big, warm house.
Where oh where in these great United States is there snow making the slow graceful transformation into mud and debris ??? Everything I see is burning or dessicating…
You have to sit through many minutes of me making peach fritters from a vintage recipe, but you can see footage of Bartholomew being an intrepid explorer. I was hoping he’d take after Albert, not Lupin… https://youtu.be/RJheHMWUSos
Ah. Yes. The first major lawn cutting of Spring. When I found my then $120 1/2in drive torque wrench, (which had disappeared when my kids decided to play swashbuckler), with my $300 dollar lawnmower, which was promptly totaled.
Tommy was the sweetest cat, right up there with my male black panther from long ago. I was sort of looking forward to this tribute week and sort of not wanting to think about the reason for the tribute week. It just broke my heart when Tommy passed.
