Not a joke. A Virginia Republican legislator introduced a bill requiring public schools to teach students about the Lincoln – Douglass debates. Frederick Douglass.
Youngkin, like the rest of the Rong Wingers is pushing the lie that CRT is studied at a level less than university. And, like the rest of the RW, he’s convinced that is a way to convince a majority of those who are able and willing to vote to vote for the purveyors of said lie. After all, it’s worked very well for a very long time.
Teacher’s unions have become the target, even though they have nothing to do with pushing a false narrative scare tactic made up by dishonest politicians.
Teachers now have to fear if they say anything critical about; slavery, Jim Crow, lynching they will be fired. If Little Johnny goes home and says Mr Jones said in history class that slaves were considered subhuman and often flogged and his Great, Great,Great, Great Grandfather got rich off their labor-Mr Jones is teaching CRT and should be fired.
Protecting our children from an imaginary CRT agenda, killing our children by lifting mask mandates during a lethal pandemic. Not the least bit divisive. Next we’ll have bodycams on teachers to prevent the spread of seditious knowledge.
Virginia got suckered into voting for this travesty of a governor, and now they’ll just have to live with it, as well as the idiot Attorney General they elected.
This cartoon shows that Mr. Goodwyn is an ignoramus.
First. Virginia is a “right to work” state. That is, joining a union is optional, not a requirement. It is also “at will employment” state, you can be fired for any (or no) reason unless you have a contract. Public employees only just won the right to unionize in 2020, and that is only at the behest of the local governing agency. In a teacher’s case, the school board. In short, teacher’s unions in Virginia have very little power to do anything other than negotiate compensation and work rules. Which brings us to…
Second. …and that is all the power a teacher’s union has anywhere. Unions only negotiate a contract with the employer. They deal with compensation and work rules. Curriculum, which CRT falls under, is the business of the state government and the local school board. Critical Race Theory is NOT a high school level course. It is one of the many aspects of Sociology and Law taught in colleges and universities.
Now I’m sure we can find cases where something like CRT is taught, but you can also find lots of cases of public schools pushing religious agendas and teaching revisionist American History (I have witnessed history teachers in Georgia teaching that the Civil War was a result of Northern oppression). But, for the most part, CRT is an invention by conservatives to scare parents. You can read it right here:
I don’t care what you personally believe, Mr. Goodwyn, but if you’re going to smear my profession. expect a lesson in proper research and common sense from me and my colleagues.
In Virginia that are no teachers’ unions. There is a Virginia Education Association, but it has no bargaining power with school divisions on either the state or local level.

Youngkin is dividing Virginia by pushing the false idea that CRT is being taught in its schools. Of course you conserves will keep pushing that idea.

Goodwyn prefers the old Texas schoolbooks which told that the slaves were happy being told what to do.

Youngkin banned the teaching of Critical Race Theory (although it is not being taught).
Youngkin did not ban the teaching of Replacement Theory.
Make of it what you will.

The technique—create a false threat and present yourself as the savior from that threat. Meanwhile, ignore real problems.

In the Alternate Universe, teaching actual history is called dividing people. Whitewash is always a nice, uniform color.

We must now keep functional analysis and differential geometry out of the 6th grade math classes least students become radicalized.
