La-Z-Boy still going strong since 1927 (much younger than both my paternal and maternal grandparents, but a little older than my stepmother’s parents).
It sure wasn’t named for a woman — those handles were always just out of reach. Found a chair (unknown brand) that just uses foot/leg power to push up and back and a loveseat that has a push-button gizmo right below the armrest. No stretching or electricity required. Now that’s easy.
Mine’s 28 years old. Four speed..In it’s early years used to be a source of dimes, quarters and keys, as found when occasionally running the Hoover around here.
In our our household the female (me) is the one with the recliner chair and the male (husband) has the delicate arm chair. My first recliner chair in our apartment was one of those big fake leather ones with a handle on the size to move it into recliner position.
When we moved to our house we (meaning husband) decorated the living room in “sort of” colonial – so the big leather recliner had to go. We found one that looked like a period wing chair and bought it. No handle on side. Big problem – when I sit in the chair my feet do not reach the floor so I cannot push with my feet against the floor to get it recline! I have to push into partially into reclining position with my hands while standing in front of it and then try to sit in it without it going to back to a standing chair. (My feet rarely reach the floor when I sit in a chair,sofa, bench, etc.)

He’s old school. Ours is electric, with a toggle switch to raise/lower the footrest.

It’s slightly too comfortable to be good for your overall health. Fortunately, my cats convince me to periodically go for walks.
