The Fellowship of “Big Betty”

What’s the status on the sharpener? It looks like it’s in one piece but it hasn’t been turned upright yet…

there is probably two dragons guarding the sharpener that can sharpen big betty

spud has a friend along with his quest: the seagull and hopefully wallace (this quest sounds like in wallace’s interest)

“…One pencil to call them all, and in the classroom bind them.”

I’ve loved Wallace’s family and friends for quite a while. Now I love Mrs. McIntosh too.

2. But if he gets it sharpened, in most present school systems it would probably fall afoul of “no dangerous weapons allowed on school grounds” policies. But I imagine Mr. Hayes or Mrs. Mc would hold it in a secure spot till the end of the school day.

3. Reflecting on the speculation about the index card posted next to the class room, it looks to me as if someone has moved the conjectured thumbtack and added a schmack of duct tape to keep it in place and upright.

Shop class in elementary school? Much cooler school than mine was, and that was in the early 70’s, a time of far laxer safety standards!!

I’m not understanding his reluctance to go there…is he younger or older than 5th grade?

He does sort of look like a Hobbit.

I’m really liking the transition to a Tolkien theme here and I am even happier that Spud knows the lore – as much as I would like to think I was Wallace at that age … I had plenty of Spud in me.
