That’s a damn good point. If I were trying to negotiate w/ the US at this point, I’d be taking baby steps and asking for payment in advance and 3rd party guarantees.

The Obama administration negotiated a strong, solid multi-national arms control agreement that kept the world safe from an Iranian nuclear threat and which even Trump’s top security officials, who had initially opposed it, testified before congress, under oath, that it was working.

Trump single-handedly sabotaged that agreement and dared and double-dared Iran to re-start its nuclear program, putting the U.S. and our allies at risk in exactly the way that Putin wanted.

The Obama administration was able to orchestrate a brilliant SEVEN NATION international Iran nuclear treaty (the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action [JCPOA]) comprised of U.K., France, Germany, China, Russia, U.S. and Iran) to prevent a nuclear Iran.

WE WERE AT PEACE; IRAN WAS UNDER CONTROL.

And then, along came Trump to blow the whole thing up and destroy any chance of peaceful de-nuclearization of Iran. Even Trump’s own top defense and national security appointees — officials Trump himself had selected — confirmed in congressional hearings that Iran was fully compliant before TRUMP decided to violate the agreement, blow the whole thing up, and scuttle the deal, of which REPUBLICANS had obstructed final ratification, treated Iran with bellicosity and belligerence and, surprise! surprise! now we are teetering on the brink of war.

The Iranian government is not to be trusted, but it is TRUMP who has made the U.S. the rogue nation.

It is TRUMP, the belligerent bomb thrower, who has caused Iran to become a threat once again.

Now, President Biden is trying to return us to the Obama success, but Iran has a legitimate concern: how can they trust that the United States, a nation poisoned by white supremacist extremists in Georgia, Texas and Florida, will not again make a promise and then promptly break it?

The damage that Trump has wrought on the U.S. is something that will haunt the U.S. for decades to come.

Vladimir Putin must be so happy.

There are no guarantees. The American voting public is still as dangerous as ever and could launch another one in the future.

Daeder is absolutely right. You have no more of a guarantee than do we that you will not experience another convulsive change like the one that brought Khomeini to power.

The “sane” part of our population need to get out and vote no matter how much the right-wing repugnants sabotage our voting rights. We shouldn’t have to jump through hoops and wait forever to vote. It’s important for people to realize how much our democracy counts on them to elect a competent, honest leader to guide our country. We need to put the cult of the failed president behind us and try not to make that mistake again. The world is watching us. We have fallen but can get up and are doing better now.

Joe’s word.. at best two years. The credibility of Americas “word” has been seriously damaged. Perhaps.. if justice gets to play out and trump (and his cronies) get marched into jail.. perhaps, that credibility will start to come back.. but don’t hold your breath……

    The ayatollah’s got a point.

But, in fairness, any nation that went from Mossadegh to Pahlavi to Khomenei to Khameini probably shouldn’t be lecturing other countries about how to choose a leader.

The hot head right wing extremists might elect their fascist dictator and go to war with the world to prove their toxic masculinity.

What guarantee? We allow the Constitution to work properly.

First, no slam on Obama, but it should NOT have an Executive Order. It should have gone through the Senate. But Mitch McConnell made that impossible, didn’t he? But Mitch is out and needs to be fully neutered and any new agreements with Iran (and ALL other international treaties) need to be properly ratified by the Senate.

Second, once the Senate approves a treaty the president should NOT have the authority to leave the treaty. This protects our foreign policy from being totally destroyed in case we elect some kind of jug-head idiot who doesn’t know %% about foreign policy as POTUS.

We do it RIGHT this time.
