Quickest way to tick of an atheist; believe in a compassionate God and take comfort in the belief that there is greater out there than the randomness of chance. Seriously though whenever you mention your belief in any form of religion in the presence of an atheist they seem to become really defensive and go on the attack. I guess it is because they cannot fathom the concept that there exists a being greater than themselves, and their ego cannot take that kind of a hit.

^maybe it’s the corruption of organized religions of all types.

maybe it’s just the hypocricy of all of the “peaceful” religions.

maybe it’s because, at least my “religion” tells stories of a cruel, vengeful god.

maybe it’s because of the cruelty and murderous nature of so many organized religions.

maybe some of us don’t want to be any part of it.

in school i was taught that mono-theism was a dramatic step forward for humankind.

the longer i live the more i think the polytheists had it right.

Actually, wing-nut, what I can’t fathom is the concept that in this day and age, people still hold on to stories written ages ago by men claiming to be speaking for some god. If anything about religion ticks me off, it’s your need to push it into the faces of other people. Christians seem to make wonderful salesmen.

Some of you say that we athiests worship science. No, but we respect it. At least science is constantly challenging its findings to get to the truth. The same cannot be said of religion’s”true believers”.

I’m very content to say I don’t know where we came from or where we’re going. I don’t feel the need to latch on to ancient stories for some sort of mental comfort-food.

Hmm, folks waiting for a dude who’s been waiting himself at the bus stop for 2,000 years are fighting another group waiting for the “hidden imam” to come and bail THEM out. While humans are indeed NOT the supreme intelligence of the universe, their efforts to create one in their own image has led to all kinds of problems- like well, wars, famine, murder, persecution, subjugation, sex-based repression, greed, intolerance, yep– real “sanity” indeed.

John 8:12 “then spoke Jesus again to them, saying ‘I am the Light of the world; he that follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the Light of Life’….v.13 “the Pharisees said to Him, ‘You bear record of yourself; your record is not true’…..v.18 (Jesus answered) ‘I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent Me bears witness of Me’…and v.58 “Jesus said to them, ‘Verily, verily, I say to you, Before Abraham was, I am’…”

Praise God for His pre-creation Plan for the Father to send His only begotten Son to be the Holy and sinless substitute for me and all sinners….paying the sin-debt with His sinless and holy Blood….so that I and all who put Faith in His Word may be forgiven all sin and granted eternal life.

How wonderful a God is the God of the Bible.

Those who believe and those who don’t believe have such varying beliefs that it’s pointless to lump anyone into a homogenous group. It’s also pointless to put down the belief system of anyone else - regardless of what it is - because we simply do not know. All we can do is take our experience, our intellect and our hearts (gut-instinct, if you will) - and make the best judgments we can. Then - respect the belief choices of others. It does no religious system justice to disrespect others.

As for myself - I do believe. I am also a pacifist, believing there is no such thing as a truly just war. Certainly, most of our wars have been wars of choice. Just as certainly, they have had nothing to do with God or religion in general. To pin them on religion is a canard - or more properly a red herring - pointing blame in the wrong direction to misdirect from the real reason for nearly every war – greed and desire for power. This cartoon (and I’m not normally a big Varvel fan) is fair in that he has simply expressed his joy in the day, as is his believe. It is nothing more - nothing less.

I don’t understand all of the antagonism and acrimony. The man took one day out of the year to give rise to his faith. That is his right; free speech. You can say what you want; he can say what he wants. But why does it piss you off so much that he declared his faith? Do you feel threatened by his faith?

    Get a grip, folks.

    He IS risen!

DrCanuck, how is anyone insulting you? News flash, not everything is about you. Don’t let life take you so seriously.

But if it is about you, it is about opportunity for you to stretch your mind and acknowledge that there are other possibilities beyond what our small minds can conjure up.

People of “faith” aren’t the general problem, it’s the ones who practice hypocrisy. Not believing in the “creation God” of the bible, doesn’t mean one doesn’t recognize a far more powerful force in the universes that does NOT have any “human” or other form, and is NOT brutal toward any of creation, including nature and natural forces which ARE the basis of all life, human and otherwise. ANYONE who kills for his faith, or uses it as an excuse for killing his own species, has no true faith. But that IS history. Any nation devoting a majority of its resources and mind to war- is questionable on sanity, let alone “faith”.

apparently Satan’s people have read parts of God’s Bible, but in chosen UNbelief they mock scripture and they hate anyone expressing Belief mixed with Faith in God.

Romans 14: 9-12….to highlight an unchangable truth… “As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.”

I feel sorrow that some posters have chosen an eternity apart from God.

God bless cartoonist Varvel, who knows the truth and is not afraid to express truth in the midst of ravening wolves…..

Ignoring the rest of the comments… cause some of the deserve it to be honest… I don’t get your first comment Anthony.

First of all, this isn’t a political cartoon, obviously. Second of all, it’s an editorial. So if it were political then isn’t that kinda the point? And shouldn’t you then also be saying, “oh look, another political toon from the left wing fringe” on those like Tom Toles and Ben Sargent or something?

Or are those on the Right just supposed to be silent and hide in the corner while only those on the left are allowed to speak… allowing, what at least they may believe, the world to go to hell in a hand basket (specifically crafted for this years Easter egg hunts)? :} Kinda 1984 Orwellian… just with a fancy Easter egg basket added for a modern twist.

You may not agree with the Right nor with the religious or religion in general (if not specifically), but at least you could be fair, reasonable and realistic.

Bullwinkle… while your vitriol might go unmatched… your reason and logic skills are poorly lacking.

Just for one of many aspects. Let’s assume the Christian’s God does exist. If that were true then by logical deduction so would the presumed method of “salvation” as well as rules/reasoning that coincides with it. As such, by every logical standard, an Atheist -such as yourself, if not especially as yourself- would obviously have no chance go to heaven or inherit the new earth (depending on your eschatology of course).

Naturally, according to Christian text, the definition of salvation requires faith and belief… and the very definition of Atheism is non-belief in any God. Hence, 0% of Atheists would be chosen or “picked” before or in place of anyone claiming to be Christian (unless they were first imputed with faith by grace… which would no longer make them Atheists, btw… and, according to the Christian text, is the principle to how anyone receives salvation and believes).

Now you may be right that a certain percentage, possibly even large, may not be receiving the grace they so claim regarding their faith in Christ… if it all be true of course… but one line of reasoning (e.g., not all Christian being true Christians) does not beget the other (Atheists more likely to receive grace and the eternal benefits of salvation than those professing to be Christians and being hypocritical or whatnot).

Please, at least learn the basics to which your faith is based upon… “logic” and “reason” (for which their existence has not and cannot be accounted for via the Atheist/Humanist… which happens to be why so many truly intelligent humanistic philosophers tend to claim Agnosticism… tho it too has many a problem).

When it comes down to it… everyone has a “faith.” The question is what does it lead to and what kind of person does it help lead you to become. I’d take a hypocritical but good person who claims to be Christian over a jerk who’s and Atheist… and equally when inverting the roles.

    Sorry, just saying.

… but the cupcake joke is kinda funny. It was the yeast thing you could accomplish.

Dannysixpack, Disgusted will undoubtedly tell you that the christians that support pedophilia aren’t really christians. (Except for the fact that Disgusted rarely responds to posts that disintegrate what he spews.)

But remember: If all the christians who’ve been called “not really chistians” by other christians were to disappear…

…there would be no christians left.

What does the bible say happens to all liars? Not just liars who consider themselves “saved”, but all liars?

But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and ALL LIARS, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

I’m looking forward to sniffing the brimstone with any christians who have told a lie.

Unless your god values honesty, in which case I’ll be looking down on you.

Go on, Dr. Canuck: Come up with a bible verse encouranging the adherents to apply critical thought to their religion.

And don’t bother with Prov 18:15 (An intelligent mind acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge). I’ve tried that in the past, and been told that seeking knowledge outside the bible isn’t an answer.

Specifically: 1CO 1:19 I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.

Danny6, I post FOR THE BIBLE….not for any specific denomination. The Bible teaches local churches to discipline any member who openly sins or is openly known to be living in sin and doing harm to others. The RC leadership will one Judgment Day have to face God who is the Saviour they sinned against while posing as “Shepherds” in His name. “Be sure your sin will find you out”…..

Bible also teaches that every human will also be required to face Judgment for every idle word spoken in this life. I am endeavoring to speak what I believe the Bible says is Truth….”thy word is truth”….

The Bible also teaches that Wisdom is found in the Word of God…..and that it is “the fool” who is the one saying “there is no god”…..all I am posting is that it is better to seek God’s wisdom for this life, and that it is dangerous to human souls to reject God and His Word.

(p.s. Anthony…I am age 78 great-grandmother….definitely not a “he”) (“Except for the fact that Disgusted rarely responds to posts that disintegrate what he spews”.)

^^^^Disgusted, thanks for your answer, and the insght that you are a great grandmother. I will no longer hear a male voice when i read your posts.

there is a flaw in your bible backing. “The” bible, at best, has been translated many time through many languages and was written by different humans.

One must take that into account. At best you are reading a translation of man’s interpretation of gods word.

DO YOU REALLY WANT TO KNOW THE TRUTH?

Life is short; if God doesn’t exist why waste you time?

Just in case there is someone who truly wants to know if God exists or if Christ is his son… I recommend that you ask him. It should go without saying (but I will say it, nevertheless) YOU SHOULD HONESTLY WANT TO KNOW THE TRUTH. It is a waste of your time if you already have your mind set.

He will reveal himself to anyone who truly asks.

Deuteronomy 4:29 NIV “But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul.”

Luke 11:9 NIV “So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”

These verses are either true or they aren’t. So why not challenge him to reveal himself to you.
