Went to a small town school. Very Rural. Some of the teachers had farms and worked them. Never had this culture shock. Did treat the teacher/Superintendent/coach with very high levels of respect when I encountered them off campus, though. They were always respected and were symbols of authority. Sir and Mam were orders of the day.
I went to a Catholic elementary school and during the summer I saw a nun without her normal penguin uniform on and was SO freaked out I ran from the store we were in…still makes me shutter…
I once saw my English teacher on the beach in a Bikini… which sort of killed any attention the I paid to the subject being taught, the fact that she wore miniskirts had already damaged that…
Just the opposite. I have seen patients outside of the office, clinic or hospital. Once a little girl who I had not seen in six or seven years ran up to me and gave me the biggest hug. She was with her grandparents and they were shocked that she would do that. She turned to them and said, “This is doctor Teto, he cured my cancer.” The grandparents were very friendly after that. I always love seeing patients out in the world. Graduations and weddings are the greatest.

Wallace is so surprised. I was never REALLY shocked by this, as my teachers routinely spoke about their life outside school.

I always looked someplace else in the hopes they wouldn’t see me.

It works like the holodecks on Star Trek ships. If the photonic people leave the holodeck room, they dissolve.

On a similar note, how about seeing your Doctor for the first time in a public place?
