I fully expect this series to end with Grandma coming out and looking at the board and none of them being real curse words.

This is just so sad. All that bad language shows no respect for others. vanpelt I don’t know if your girlfriend works. Does she use vulgar/cussing words to strangers. No wonder schools have so much problems. I hope grandma Evie finds out and shows those girls different and better no offensive words. Sorry all I don’t like this type of strip.

@Vanpelt, I stand corrected. At 11:00 P.M. my mind tends to become somewhat Scrabbled.

Thank you, Kab Buch, that’s exactly how I feel about this current comic arc. The kids are sinking to the lowest common denominator. It reminds me of a sentence in the book of Judges in the Bible: ” Every man did that which was right in his own eyes.”

As long as they don’t use whatever curse words to degrade others(which I don’t think I’ve ever seen reading this strip), I don’t see a problem with it as just a game.
I do agree that there will be some parental intervention forthcoming
marvee about 13 years ago
I trust that this will become a teaching moment, probably from grandma, and not in learning more offensive words. She will probably talk about respect and consideration for others.

♪♫Good authors too who once knew better words, Now only use four letter words Writing prose, Anything Goes. ♪♫

Cole Porter had a lot of experience, and knew what he was talking about when he wrote “Anything Goes!” It was true then and is even more true today. I use a 4-letter word when necessary, but I don’t get carried away, nor do I use them in polite company! It’s only good manners. It’s also the TYPE of swear words you use which matter, too.
vldazzle about 13 years ago
I agree that offensive words have no place (which is why symbols were used in their place- and I do when wanting to indicate such). I agree that gma will intervene to provide better inoffensive words.

wow, some ppl here seem to be a bit tense! This is just a game and a variation of it has always been a part of kids’ lives, everywhere. The words change, some lose their bite, others take their place but the forbidden has always been exciting and interesting. The playing of the game does NOT necessarily mean the children will be using the words to demean others.
I wouldn’t dream of telling them off for the game. (and no, my kids don’t swear, as a matter of fact my 10 year old told his friend off the other day for swearing over a computer game).
