Ultimately, the governors and the president won’t matter. People will decide when they feel ready to sit in a theater, bowl, eat in a restaurant…or work in places with other people, and judging by the care we’ve taken, that won’t be quick. What is galling is to see them disregarding the people they’ve been thanking, or should have been thanking, who bear the brunt of every new case.
Proof positive (like we needed it) that the dishonesty, imbeclity, and insanity of Republican politicians isn’t limited to those at the federal and state levels. From an ope-ed in today’s Kansas City Star: “Mark Hatesohl [note from Godfreydaniel: That’s his actual name, and very appropriate!], a city commisioner in Manhattan, Kansas, said at a meeting on Tuesday, ’I’m almost to the point where it’s like, let’s everybody get the damn thing and get it over with.” Like I said, proof positive! Hatesohl refused to walk any of his idiocy back when contacted by a reporter, even though he was given every chance to do so. This bozo is the former MAYOR of a major university town! He is also a chiropractor, so we already knew that he isn’t smart enough to be a real doctor. In fact, that got me thinking about “Two and a Half Men” which featured a chiropractor. I’d have to say that Hatesohl is as incompetent as Alan and as irresponsible as Charlie!
After seeing the projected deficit, in part related to keeping America viable during the crisis, it occurred to me that T Rump’s initial and ongoing lethargy in combatting the covid-19 threat could have been part of a plan to mask his ongoing mismanagement of the country generally (which results he can now blame on covid-19 expenses). Remembering that he’s mismanaged nearly every single thing he’s ever put his hand to, the only question is, “Do you believe he’s venal and despicable enough to do such a thing?” I know what my answer would be…

Sounds interesting, right? And then I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in one minute. It is quite likely that China covered up the danger when there was an outbreak there. So, did Trump when it hit our country. At least, they didn’t call it a hoax.
The United States used to have a team of doctors, scientists, etc. standing by listening to the news for any hint of a possible outbreak. The Obama administration set it up after an Ebola scare in Africa. They were dispatched to hot spots several times and prevented diseases from ever reaching the US, by isolating and treating them at their source. That team was disbanded by Trump in his first budget about a year after he took office.
The U.S. government’s slow and inadequate response to the new coronavirus underscores the need for organized, accountable leadership to prepare for and respond to pandemic threats.In a health security crisis, speed is essential. When this new coronavirus emerged, there was no clear White House-led structure to oversee our response, and we lost valuable time. Yes, we have capable and committed global and national disease-prevention and management organizations, as well as state and local health departments, all working overtime now. But even in prepared cities like Seattle, health systems are struggling to test patients and keep pace with growing caseloads. The specter of rapid community transmission and exponential growth is real and daunting. It’s impossible to assess the full impact of the 2018 decision to disband the White House office responsible for this work. Biological experts do remain in the White House and in our government. But it is clear that eliminating the office has contributed to the federal government’s sluggish domestic response.
