If you’re in a city with a large community of color, the storm’s already ripping off the roofs. Expect the same level of care and concern from the fearless leader of inhumanity in DC.
As the Democratic members of Congress want to add to the economic stimulus package more aid to state hospitals, as requested by the governors, McConnell, as in the usual republican tactics, accuses the Dems of blocking help to small business for political gain. This has been their tact ever since Newt Gingrich, and it HAS undermined, if not already destroyed our system of Democratic governance.
If we haven’t learned from COVID-19 about the danger of trying to run social services like healthcare as private for-profit (leading to the world’s most-expensive/least-cost-effective healthcare) we INDEED are getting the government we deserve. Government is NOT a business and the attempts to treat it as one has hurt the public as our (multi-)millionaire Congress — mostly unaffected by their own bad decisions — indulge their ill-informed gut feelings and pet ideas and impose them on the public.
By golly, they sured showed everyone that they didn’t need to observe those librul communistic notions of social distancing cuz they had their lily white God and ’murican liberties on their sides…/s
I’m the emergency manager in a small prairie community. Our normal plan is down the crapper. We have few resources, fewer trained volunteers and no place to hide. Flooding and wildfires season is coming. Shelter and transportation plans won’t work. And I don’t think the blood of a sacrificial lamb is going to work this time.
Many small rural hospitals will, I believe, be both perfectly able to handle what they need to do, but also will handle it with excellence and panache. Because rural communities don’t have shared mass transport, don’t have crowded shopping situations, do have many people who tend to be working in somewhat isolated circumstances and who are more self sufficient than urban dwellers. So, they’re almost automatically self-isolating… which should result in a very low curve that will allow their hospitals to keep up.

No community is safe. Follow the doctors orders no matter where you are.

Our small rural hospitals are actually laying off staff due to lack of business.

With zero cases in the county so far, and people paying attention to social distancing, our small hospital may be okay.
