They know all about Ranked Choice Voting and, instead, came up with their very own Home Grown version of the Electoral College, but with In Person Screw ups.
Yes indeed, the big winner coming out of Iowa is New Hampshire.
And the big winners coming out of Iowa and New Hampshire being allowed to go first is WHITE PRIVILEGE.
But the big LOSER is the United States generally and Democrats in particular.
These small, lily-white, largely rural (neither has any city larger than 250,000) homogenous states may be good representatives for Republican party primaries, but ever so inappropriate to set the tone for Democratic party primary season.
Iowa didn’t screw this up… it was the Democratic party that ran this little disaster… Besides what’s wrong with Iowa… except its a little freakin cold there… as good as place as any
Does anyone know what portion of the gross domestic product of the entire State of New Hampshire is attributable to their primary election every 4 years? (I’d settle for just a comparison between their 2016 GDP and 2017.)
Iowa did one thing and did it exceptionally well – Iowa conclusively proved that the time of “caucuses” is well and truly over and the entire concept needs to be consigned to “the dustbin of history!”
Caucuses were NEVER ANY KIND OF DEMOCRATIC method of choosing a candidate – as a matter of fact, caucusing ranks just behind the electoral college as being the most undemocratic way of picking political choices.
And once the Supreme Court affirms the 10th district Court of Appeals decision on the Electoral College this coming June, technically, America can stop the great time waster of holding national elections every four years since the popular “vote” will be more along the lines of a “beauty contest” rather than any type of political determinant!
(and for those who don’t follow the various court’s decisions – the 10th district ruled that, once the various states choose who the electoral college “electors” are, they have no further control of those electors and CANNOT dictate how those “electors” vote! Our founding Fathers did not put any state controls on the Electoral College in the Constitution – none! The states have assumed such controls on their own with no truly legal justification.
We have debated getting rid of the “College” for years, now, and it appears that the Supreme Court is about to get rid of US, the American Voter, instead!

I bet Iowa gets it right in 2024. Assuming we get to HAVE an election that year.
