How do you borrow a crossword? If he hasn’t filled it in, he either won’t give it to her or, if he does, he won’t need it back. It’s like “borrowing” somebody’s sandwich…

I think you’re being a bit too literal Fritzoid. Saying “borrow” vs “have” is the equivalent of softening a request. If Adam thinks she’s just going to look at instead of try to finish it, he shaved down too far.

Adam is having delusions of grandeur. Clearly he can’t see himself clearly in the mirror to know how stupid he looks. He was no prize when he had hair, and now without hair —well let’s just say that I don’t know how Laura can stand him!
