Showing my age, I thought first “he learned this from Bernie” the geek from early Doonesbury cartoons. He changed into all sorts of interesting things. Once his professor gave him poor marks for some insignificant detail and he was devastated. Mike did a rather inadequate job of consoling Bernie.
And then there is Oliver Wendel Jones from Bloom County.
I bet this is the reason schools around here have “Student/Parent/Teacher” conferences where the kids come and the meeting is supposed to be student-led.
