And since so many have those annoying pocket phones, the phone companies have removed the pay phones leaving people like me no phone access at all.

…..and after a 508 mile drive, an order for “a cold one” going by the bar on the way to the phone booth to call Mother to announce my arrival in one piece and the ever-repeated “WHY do you always stop for a drink when you could come straight home and have a cup of hot tea??” Jeeez, Ma…

The AT&T service was definitely better back then. Now, ya can’t buy a bar off the interstate or outside a metro area.

    Now, you can’t use a cellphone as a port-a—-. Maybe that’s a good thing.

I just lost my last flip phone and decided, for the sake of my husband and my friends, that it was time to start texting. As we were sitting in the ATT store getting the new phone set up and I was fending off as much of the 21st century phone experience as I could, the manager stopped by to see how things were going. I got kidded about my 20th centuryness and was fine until the manager, roughly 35 years my junior, assured me that his mom had a similar phone and just LOVED being on youtube all day. All I could do was look at him and say “God save me!” The number of assumptions encompassed in that statement are many and varied, the worst of which is that the awful fate of a life of youtube is a good thing.
