Speaking of learning, will you be teaching Joe some of your weight loss secrets, Clarence?

You do not have to teach a cat how to act smug. It is part of their nature.

You sure you want Joe to get gout, so he has to change all his eating habits? That’s why Clarence lost his weight.

Cats are almost human; they know what you’re saying, but they ignore you. Had a couple of kids with the same problem.

Of course it’s a plot device, but when I scooped ice cream as a summer job, I got pretty tired of it after a while. That’s long ago, now, and happily, I don’t get tired of it any more. In the meantime, go Viral! You tell ‘em! Or not. Your response: ignore ‘em.

Cats can be trained, you just can’t train them like you would with a dog. Cats can even learn tricks on their own as well. One of mine learned how to pee in the toilet.

Cat’s can learn commands like dogs, but have to be taught. My three cat’s know down, out, bed, and come. All three even know their names. My dogs also know similar commands, but the cats respond better. Also dogs don’t know any commands or tricks unless you teach the dog.

Joe looks like he’s been gaining weight while Clarence has been losing it. I wonder if there’s a storyline coming about that?

not obeying commands isn’t a sign of lack of intellect, it actually reflects poorly on us in that we’ve domesticated the things for so many thousands of years and were never able to make them listen

Dogs have owners. Cats have staff.

Wouldn’t want to overwork the cat.

I had a cat who would fetch milk bottle lids…preferably at 3 am.

My daughter trained her cat to sit up and tap her hand with her paw to get a treat. The cat will also lift up her front legs when you ask her if she wants “up”. (of course she has to be in the mood to go “up”) She also taught the cat to stop unwanted behavior with either a “No” or a snap. Her cat is definitely smart. Consistency is the key to training whether it is a cat, a dog, or a kid.

If you want a dog, get a dog. If you want a cat, enjoy your cat.
