But if you have to make the robot BECAUSE you have to make your bed, then someone IS making you do it (albeit indirectly), and thus that technically IS work, isn’t it?

Nothing a first-grade computer science class can’t fix.

Be sure to program free will into the robot so he can rule the world.

You just know the only thing that Calvin is going to make is a HUGE mess.

It’s a good learning experience. It should get faster with the next robot. His dad is a patent attorney and might know someone who could help.

As a “maker”, I totally understand this impulse. And now that I’m retired, I often build a tool that makes some stupid task even simpler. Because the fun is in the building!

Oh, oh. I don’t think any robot created by Calvin would follow Isaac Asimov’s “Three Laws of Robotics”.

….and then there are all the expensive parts to make the robot. It might be cheaper to pay for a maid to make the bed.

But if Calvin succeeded, he’d only have to build the robot once. (I know that is a really big “if”.)

LOL! A philosophy echoed by kids everywhere!

Nobody is going to invent a bed-making machine if nobody tries.

I had SO many students who approached schoolwork this way. (i.e. finding a complicated labor-intensive way around it rather than just do it.)

I made a “robot” when I was younger, too. It spiraled into a mini-project in my fifth-grade class.

And just think of all the $$$$$!

Ya gotta admire Calvin’s entrepreneurial spirit, even if it’s a half-baked idea.

At least the chances of Mom’s car winding up in the ditch across the road are minimal.

Calvin will go far in life, to government, prison, or both.

Reminds of MY version of the 80 / 20 rule: When programming computers and I used 80% of my energy, I just did the calculation manuslly.

Too bad there was NEVER a strip that showed Calvin getting spanked because of all the nonsense he tries! Any rational parent would have beat that kid senseless if he tried even HALF of his stuff with them!

Similar to Dodsworth the cat training a young cat to catch house mice instead of doing it himself…
