As the last American farmers move their families into town and go to work at Walmart, at least they will have the profound consolation that Hollywood & Fifth Ave. will be safe from Chinese pirates.
“Stealing” intellectual property has been done since the dawn of time. America.. is not above stealing.. both domestically and international.. what ever they can, to win.. make.. or screw the other guy.
Ah, Ramirez makes his living off of “intellectual property”. No wonder he’s so dog-gone ready to destroy small, family owned American farm in order to protect it.
Meanwhile all the other options, such as diplomacy, cooperative agreements, joint ventures, trade alliances, sanctions, they all go unused.
China’s thievery goes beyond movies and music. Virtually any product which they like will be stolen and sold to a “contractor” to produce. Too bad if you invent a great product (patented or not), and hope to make money from it. If the Chinese pick up on it, they will first offer you a pittance to buy it, and if you refuse, they will find someone else to sell it to.
I recommend Free Software and Creative Commons media. Our IP laws were written to protect corporations, not creators or the public, in spite of the explicit mandate in the Constitution.
Article I Section 8. Clause 8 – Patent and Copyright Clause of the Constitution. [The Congress shall have power] “To promote the progress of science and useful arts, by securing for limited times to authors and inventors the exclusive right to their respective writings and discoveries."
American companies went to China and taught them how to do the job and provided them with the plans because the Chinese could do it cheaper than Americans.
Yes, the Chinese do seem to be stealing “our” IP. But raising the price of all that cheap sh*t that most of us can afford in a (vain) effort to punish them for stealing from corporate giants seems stupi… Oh! Right. Because it is stupid, and protects the rich by throwing the middle class between the gears: Policy.
Our Presidents for the last 20 years have been SCARED to face China because of what you see now in the above comments and the Main Stream Media. Better to just give in and let China cheat and eat our lunch and take our jobs and IP. At least THIS President has the GUTS to try. This is why he got elected and the OTHER did not!

I am not sure how important intellectual property is. Maybe China does not respect it because they view all knowledge as public property.

Yeah, but the Chinese don’t pay for our tariffs, except very indirectly through reduced sales. The effing consumers pay for the tariffs!

The Chinese are stealing our intellectual property. Therefore we have no alternative but to punish American farmers.

If they take Trump’s intellectual property they leave empty handed.
