Dick Tracy by Mike Curtis and Charles Ettinger for January 27, 2011

This strip is moving so slowly, I’m not even going to bother with a new snarky remark. Please refer to yesterday’s snark or the one before that.

So Locher has found a new way to further slow this arc: now he’ll show us how he writes this crap. “It was a dark and stormy night … it was raining hard because of the storm … and there was no light in the darkness of the night … ” as Locher begins his Dick-Tracy/”Mote In God’s Eye” crossover novel …

In panel #1, Thick’s left hand remains painfully distorted. In panel #2, the wind is blowing so hard that the granary has lost its tilt and the tree next to it has vanished.

Tracy wrote his thriller novel; I fell asleep after the first paragraph.

From the appearance of dapper Dick Tracy, one would never know that he was recently exposed to one of the worst storms in history. He puts new meaning in permanent press! Impressive, eh?

Good catch, Rightwingmoron. Let’s hope the “new guys” can maintain this type of quality we have come to expect in DT!

Looks as though it’s sbout to be washed away, although one would never know from it’s appearance inside… a well built structure.

But I never actually expected Locher to do that in the real strip. Amazing.

Seriously, that’s far beyond the blatant errors that Locher has perpetrated on us.

Really…Dick Tracy now has six fingers on one hand, and Locher didn’t catch it?

Alzheimer’s is a terrible affliction, and it’s been apparent in Locher’s out-of-touch political cartoons for years, but with the Dick Tracy comics, it’s an indication that he should have passed the reins years ago. Is there no one in his family who should have noticed this embarrassment?

Which means that this ISN’T Tracy, it’s actually that arch villain, Sixfingers! That foul fiend!

OK, the race is on between the Lame Sloth and Dick Locher. Who can write the slowest ever storyline? It’s going to be close, folks.

Before diagnosing Locher through his imagery, is it certain that he drew this stuff?

I had one of those six-finger toys when I was a kid. It was pretty cool. :>

He’s certainly not succeeding at writing the thriller comic strip.

Notice that Tracy has tied his tie again. You have to look well dressed when you are transporting a prisoner. I would still like to know where the light is coming from so that they can see. By all reason it should be pitch black. There I go again, expecting there to be reason in this strip.

Scuttlebutt99, you are the second person who has used Locher and the word “genius” in the same sentence. That’s a bad club to be in!

pretty sure Mordred has been referred to as a “he” more than once. plus he’s rotund, and those hands are pretty mannish.

then again, with this strip who knows?? pretty girls can be rotund and have mannish hands, can’t they??

EDIT: I checked, and Mordred was repeatedly called “he” and “him” when first introduced in November. in case anyone cares.

It’s Dr. Lester Orr Mordred.

Impending dialog (imagine each sentence occupying two panels. Imagine each third sentence cut in half to stretch into the next day):

Mordred: “I kill because I’m blind, gumshoe.”

Thick: “The hell you say, you rotter. How does a blind man kill?”

Mordred: “I had a pit bull for a seeing eye dog.”

Thick: “If you’re blind, why does your mask have clear lenses?”

Mordred: “It’s a clever disguise.”

Thick: “You can’t be blind.”

Mordred: “There are no lights here. A blind man is perfect to kill you in the dark.”

Thick: “I have you there, you obnoxious ranter. You see, I’m blind, too.”

Mordred: “That’s impossible, flathead!”

Thick: “Then how do you explain how I always miss clues that are in plain sight? Why else wouldn’t I make use of my wrist TV?”

Mordred: “Because you’re an idiot?”

Thick: “Mordred, the way I haven’t commented on the dark in this granary should prove I’m blind.”

Mordred: “So you’re used to living in the dark? OH CRAP.”

Mordred dies, ironically talked to death.

Horn Hair and Testicle Chin appear.

Testicle Chin: “Good work, Thick.”

Thick: “It was a real eye-opener for him.”

Horn Hair: “Speaking of which, Thick, Cholesterol Smith called. He can cure your blindness.”

Thick: “He has a new invention?”

Horn Hair: “No, @$$h0l3, he said to tell you to open your eyes.”

Well Tracy.it’s a long story…I was born at a very early age. Poor,wrong side of the tracks, all the wrong friends. Wasn’t allowed to buy a slinky or Ho Ho’s….

woodworker, if there was no light, Locher/Brozman wouldn’t have to draw anyhthing. But the Tribune might not want to use all that black ink. Didn’t they start out in the morning? It may not be 5:00 yet or Liz and whatzisname wouldn’t still be at headquarter talking about the storm and their all-weather gear and ultimate efforts, etc.

marvee, this arc began late in the day, right after Thick got back from his night or so on the streets as One of the Homeless Kind. Which means he didn’t have any sleep on the previous night. And if you are not blessed with the sort of memory that lets you forget irrelevant trivia, then you remember that Nappingville endured a fierce rainstorm before Thick entered the Alley of the Homeless Firebarrel Worshippers. Right now Thick should be daydreaming of the way he warmed himself over that barrel, just last night.

The Locher Mess Monster may have had a reason to rush events between the two arcs. If he had given Thick a day to go home, bathe, shave and sleep, then the undercover Federal agents in the alley would have had time to report what an utter fool he was, and the FBI would have nixed using him in the transfer scheme.

Bill, my guess here is that the Locherland FBI suffers from the same affliction that hit the Napperville police. If that’s the case, then DT would seem the ideal choice to make the prisoner transfer. Locherland seems to be a twisted version of Alice’s Looking Glass. Nothing seen here bears any resemblance to the way things work in the real world, but might work in the rabbit hole.
